In the Parse index, we analyzed 7,434,246 cited-page links across 3,159,290 cited page addresses and 503,370 websites in 701,353 AI answers to 18,107 organic prompts on ChatGPT Search and Google AI Mode from May 24 through August 19, 2026.
Pricing and cost pages supplied only 1.1% of cited-page links
Explicit pricing or cost terms appeared in the address for 81,133 of 7,434,246 cited-page links, or 1.1%. Those links covered 33,531 page addresses on 16,502 websites.
Ahrefs found that more than 80% of AI referral traffic to ahrefs.com went to its homepage, product pages, and free tools. That is a one-site traffic result, not a citation-page rate. This full-corpus result narrows the claim: commercial pages can receive visits without pricing pages commonly supplying citation evidence. Track the cited page separately from the landing page that later receives a visit.
Takeaway
A pricing or cost page appeared in only 6.4% of cited answers
At least one pricing- or cost-labeled page appeared in 44,944 of 701,353 cited answers, or 6.4%. At least one appeared somewhere in the observed history for 8,949 of 18,107 prompts, or 49.4%.
Availability across repeated runs is not the same as inclusion in the next answer. Report answer reach and prompt reach separately.
Cost labels supplied slightly more than half of the links
Cost or costs supplied 41,977 links, or 51.7% of pricing- and cost-labeled links. Pricing supplied 27,389, or 33.8%, and price or prices supplied 11,767, or 14.5%.
A pricing-page audit should include cost explainers and cost-comparison content. Filtering only for pricing misses most of the observed set.
Google AI Mode used pricing and cost pages 1.2 times as often
Google AI Mode used 65,591 pricing- or cost-labeled links among 5,770,388 cited-page links, or 1.1%. ChatGPT Search used 15,542 of 1,663,858, or 0.93%. The rate ratio was 1.2 to 1, and the gap was 0.20 percentage points.
Use separate engine baselines. The difference does not show that either engine prefers or evaluates pricing evidence more accurately.
Takeaway
Price-focused prompts were twenty-one times more likely to cite one
Pricing- or cost-labeled pages supplied 38,581 of 310,090 links on prompts that explicitly named price, cost, budget, affordability, or fees, or 12.4%. They supplied 42,552 of 7,124,156 links on other prompts, or 0.60%. The first rate was 20.8 times the second.
Compare page-type rates within prompt intent. The aggregate 1.1% rate blends direct price questions with the rest of the corpus.
Developer and SaaS websites had the highest larger-category rates
Pricing- or cost-labeled pages supplied 1,157 of 66,788 developer links, or 1.7%. They supplied 27,701 of 1,730,859 SaaS links, or 1.6%, and 1,349 of 93,136 documentation links, or 1.4%. Social, education, and academic website rates were 0.53%, 0.36%, and 0.14%.
Use source-category baselines before calling a website unusual. These are broad publisher labels, not judgments about page quality or evidence strength.
Transportation's rate was almost sixteen times clothing's
Transportation recorded 1,695 pricing- or cost-labeled links among 87,583 links, or 1.9%. Data and Analytics recorded 1.9%, Events 1.8%, and Information Technology 1.8%. Sports recorded 0.28%, Design 0.26%, and Clothing and Apparel 0.12%. The Transportation rate was 15.8 times the Clothing and Apparel rate.
Use an industry baseline before setting a pricing-page target. The differences describe the observed prompt and source mix and do not show that industry caused a citation.
The leading pages explained pricing models and operating costs
PocketLantern's Stripe Billing comparison supplied 241 cited-page links. Flexprice's API pricing-platform guide supplied 211, Amnic's AI cost-tracking guide supplied 206, and Lago's usage-based pricing playbook supplied 188. Four more cleaned page titles complete the leaderboard.
Audit the exact page and question. The leading pages explain pricing models, compare vendors, or quantify operating costs. They are not a list of vendor price sheets.
| Stripe Billing vs usage-based pricing platforms | Pricing | 241 | 30 | 1 | |
| Platforms for managing usage-based pricing for API products | Pricing | 211 | 36 | 1 | |
| AI cost-tracking tools | Cost or costs | 206 | 17 | 1 | |
| Usage-based pricing implementation playbook | Pricing | 188 | 25 | 1 | |
| Cost-effective alternatives for cloud logging | Cost or costs | 174 | 7 | 1 | |
| Usage-based billing platforms | Pricing | 171 | 40 | 1 | |
| ClickUp vs Asana: features, pricing, and use cases | Pricing | 131 | 40 | 1 | |
| AI cost visibility tools | Cost or costs | 121 | 21 | 1 |
Takeaway
The address rule is a lower bound, not a pricing-page classifier
Commercial price labels supplied 39,156 of 7,434,246 links, or 0.53%. Cost labels supplied 43,138, or 0.58%. The two groups overlapped on 1,161 links, or 0.02%, producing the combined 81,133 numerator. The frozen input contained zero duplicate answer-page rows and zero missing page or prompt identifiers.
The rule misses pricing content with an unlabeled address and includes cost-labeled articles that are not vendor price sheets. It does not classify page content, measure traffic or conversions, verify factual support, or show that an address label caused a citation.
What marketers should do
Pricing- and cost-labeled pages supplied 81,133 of 7,434,246 cited-page links. The rate rose to 12.4% on prompts that explicitly named price, cost, budget, affordability, or fees, and the engines differed by 0.20 percentage points.
Keep the cited URL, engine, prompt, and page-address label together. Audit pricing, cost explainers, and comparison pages separately. Check the exact pages cited on priority price questions. Do not infer citation lift from editing a URL. Rerun the fixed method next quarter before calling any difference movement.
