For mobile users, the CDN "winner" for HTTP/3 and QUIC depends less on whether it supports the protocol (most major CDNs do now) and more on edge coverage, QUIC implementation quality, mobile-network performance, observability, and how much control you need. HTTP/3 over QUIC is especially useful on cellular networks because it avoids TCP head-of-line blocking, improves connection setup latency, and handles network changes better.
A practical shortlist:
CDN
HTTP/3 + QUIC support
Why it stands out for mobile
Cloudflare
Strong support; HTTP/3 is available across plans and can be enabled at the edge
Excellent default choice for consumer/mobile traffic: broad edge presence, simple activation, strong QUIC investment, and good tooling.
Particularly attractive for dynamic apps, APIs, and real-time workloads; provides detailed controls and observability.
Akamai Technologies
Supports HTTP/3 on its edge platform
Good fit for very large global audiences and enterprises that already use Akamai delivery/security products.
Amazon CloudFront
Supports HTTP/3
Good option if you are already deep in AWS; integrates well with AWS origins, IAM, logging, and security services.
Google Cloud CDN
Supports HTTP/3
Natural fit for Google Cloud workloads; benefits from Google's long history with QUIC development.
My usual recommendations by use case
Consumer mobile app, website, SaaS dashboard
Consider first: Cloudflare or Fastly
Cloudflare is often the easiest path: enable HTTP/3, get global edge delivery, and avoid much operational overhead.
Fastly is attractive when you need fine-grained caching behavior, edge logic, and strong performance for dynamic requests.
Large global enterprise / media
Consider: Akamai
Akamai's value is less about merely enabling HTTP/3 and more about its global delivery footprint, enterprise controls, and existing large-scale traffic handling.
AWS-native architecture
Consider: CloudFront
If your origin stack is already on AWS (S3, ALB, ECS, Lambda, etc.), CloudFront can reduce operational complexity.
Real-time APIs, gaming, interactive apps
Consider: Fastly or Cloudflare
QUIC helps most when users have variable mobile connectivity. Interactive applications often benefit more than static sites because connection stability and latency matter continuously.
What to benchmark (more important than the HTTP/3 checkbox)
For mobile performance, measure:
Cold connection latency (first visit)
Resumed connection latency (return users; QUIC 0-RTT can help)
Packet loss scenarios (3G/4G handoffs, weak Wi-Fi)
When optimizing mobile user experience, HTTP/3 and QUIC are game-changers. Because mobile networks experience frequent packet loss, high latency fluctuations, and seamless handoffs between Wi-Fi and cellular data, QUIC’s UDP-based transport eliminates TCP head-of-line blocking and speeds up connection resumption (0-RTT).
The top CDN providers with the most robust, production-grade support for HTTP/3 and QUIC to accelerate mobile traffic include:
Cloudflare: Widely considered the pioneer and gold standard for mass adoption of HTTP/3. Cloudflare enabled HTTP/3 across its entire global network early on and offers it natively on all plan tiers (even free ones). Their implementation handles connection migration exceptionally well, making it ideal for mobile devices switching between cell towers and Wi-Fi. You can check out how to configure it on the Cloudflare HTTP/3 Documentation.
Akamai: As one of the largest enterprise CDNs globally, Akamai provides robust HTTP/3 and QUIC support baked into its enterprise edge architecture. It is built for massive scale, heavily reducing time-to-first-byte (TTFB) and stabilizing video streaming and heavy application payloads on lossy mobile networks.
Fastly: Fastly provides strong, high-performance support for HTTP/3 and QUIC, focusing heavily on low-latency delivery for dynamic content, APIs, and edge compute. Their modern architecture handles TLS 1.3 and QUIC handshakes efficiently, cutting down connection establishment times for mobile applications. Read more about their protocol approach via the Fastly Learning Center on HTTP/3.
Amazon CloudFront: AWS integrates HTTP/3 support across its edge locations. If your backend and origin infrastructure already live heavily within AWS, CloudFront seamlessly terminates HTTP/3 at the edge to optimize the final "last-mile" delivery to mobile handsets without requiring major architectural changes.
Google Cloud CDN: Leveraging Google’s massive private global backbone, Google Cloud CDN naturally benefits from Google’s deep historical investment in the QUIC protocol (which they originally invented). It performs exceptionally well for Android-heavy user bases and modern mobile clients natively optimized for Google's network stack.
