BorgBackup is an open‑source deduplicating archiver for backups that uses content‑defined chunking and supports encryption and compression. It stores identical chunks only once across files, across machines, and across years, making backups extremely space‑efficient while encrypting data so the backup server only sees ciphertext. It offers multiple compression options (lz4, zstd, zlib, lzma or none), can mount archives via FUSE, runs on Linux/macOS/BSD with no daemons or vendor lock‑in, and is BSD‑licensed.
