Intercom holds a narrow lead over Zendesk for grounding AI support conversations and handing off context to human agents. When the primary challenge is intercepting hallucinations with specialized safety guardrails, NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails is the usual answer.
Since July, Patronus AIrising has become a common answer for intercepting hallucinations, while Coralogixfalling dropped out of regular mentions for output filtering. Difyrising is now among the most frequently cited options for builder-friendly bot platforms, joined by regular mentions of Voiceflowrising.

Our customer support chatbot is "hallucinating" features we don't have. Who provides "guardrail" software to intercept and block incorrect model outputs?
Guardrails AI : An open-source Python framework that lets you plug in programmable validators (called "Guards") to check inputs and outputs for factual correctness, schema compliance, and hallucination reduction.
NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails : An open-source toolkit designed to steer conversational behavior, block off-topic responses, and execute programmatic self-checks on model outputs to prevent hallucinated product capabilities.[](]()]()
How does the system ensure that the AI output is safe and sanitized before it is displayed to the end user?
Google AI Mode· Oct 1, 2026
Input Filtering and Prompt Hardening: The system blocks malicious inputs or injection attempts (like prompt injections or jailbreaks) before they ever reach the model, using regex, classifiers, or secondary safety models.
In-Model Guardrails: Many platforms use alignment techniques (RLHF, constitutional AI) and built-in safety filters that discourage the model from generating toxic, biased, or harmful content during generation.
Output Sanitization and Content Moderation: Post-generation, the text or data passes through dedicated content classifiers (such as moderation APIs) to detect hate speech, PII (personally identifiable information), or dangerous instructions.
HTML/Code Escaping: If the AI output is rendered in a web interface or markdown viewer, the system sanitizes HTML, JavaScript, and special characters to prevent cross-site scripting (XSS) and injection vulnerabilities.

Whether you prefer an open-source library you can host yourself or a commercial managed API
Your current tech stack or model provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source via vLLM)
Several vendors provide LLM guardrail software that checks AI-generated answers and can block, reject, or replace responses that violate your rules. For your customer support chatbot, the key capability is grounding answers in your actual product documentation and preventing unsupported feature claims.
Leading guardrail providers
1. NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails
(Strong starting point)
An open-source toolkit for checking model responses, enforcing conversational rules, and implementing fact-checking against retrieved knowledge. Supports configurable output checks and hallucination detection.
Best for: customizable guardrails and engineering teams.
Provides model evaluation and hallucination detection capabilities, including checking whether generated answers are supported by retrieved source material. Its Lynx model can be integrated with NeMo Guardrails.
Best for: factuality evaluation and detecting unsupported answers.
Provides runtime AI security checks, particularly for prompt injection, jailbreaks, and other malicious inputs. It is useful as a complementary security layer, though it is not specifically a product-feature fact checker.
Best for: protecting the chatbot from adversarial prompts and AI-specific security threats.
Start by evaluating Amazon Bedrock Guardrails if you're already using AWS, or NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails if you want a flexible, model-independent framework.
One important caveat: AWS's contextual grounding feature has documented limitations for conversational QA/chatbot use cases, so test the exact workflow before choosing it.
Whichever vendor you choose, implement this flow:
1. Retrieve approved product information
Product catalog, feature documentation, pricing and policies
2. Generate the chatbot response
3. Verify every claim against approved sources
Check feature names, availability and factual support
Supported
Return the answer
Unsupported
Block or ask a human
The crucial distinction is that general safety filters are not the same as factuality guardrails. You need a check that compares the chatbot's claims with your authoritative product data and refuses to send unsupported claims to customers.
No guardrail guarantees perfect detection, so benchmark it against examples of features your chatbot has incorrectly invented.
Deterministic Fallbacks: If unsafe content or formatting violations are flagged during the post-processing check, the system intercepts the output and replaces it with a safe fallback message (e.g., "I cannot fulfill this request").
Would you like to explore how this is implemented for a specific use case (like a chatbot, a code assistant, or a public-facing web app)?

AI output is typically protected by multiple layers rather than a single sanitizer:
Model-level safety training steers the model away from harmful outputs.
Output moderation can inspect generated text/images and flag harmful categories before the application displays them.
Application guardrails can additionally detect PII, unsafe URLs, hallucinations, jailbreaks, or custom policy violations and block/replace the output.
Human review and monitoring can handle flagged cases and continuously improve safeguards.
Rendering sanitization is separate: applications should encode/escape model output before inserting it into HTML or other executable contexts; moderation alone is not a substitute for secure rendering.
So a robust architecture is essentially:
User input → input safety checks → model → output moderation/guardrails → secure encoding/rendering → end user.
For streaming responses, special handling is required because output may reach the user before a complete post-generation moderation check is possible. developers.openai.com
