IBM Key Protect for IBM Cloud is a cloud key management service that provisions, stores, and manages encryption keys for apps across IBM Cloud, giving you a single place to oversee the key lifecycle and data encryption. It supports importing symmetric keys from external key management systems, uses FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certified HSMs for strong security, and offers KMIP adapters for interoperability (including VMware), with options for self-managed encryption using a root key. The service provides APIs for integration inside and outside IBM Cloud, plus monitoring with IBM Cloud Activity Tracker and centralized billing, and enforces that deleted keys (and their encrypted data) cannot be recovered, with deployment options across cloud, on-premises, and edge via IBM Cloud Satellite, plus tutorials and free tier options.
