- Hi, what would be your best recommendation to a beginner who has no supplies on which brushes to get? Been looking it all up and now going round in circles. I'd like to spend no more than about £30 on brushes (less if possible) until I get more into it and know what suits me best. Ones I've been looking at are Jacksons own make, Princeton snap, Princeton heritage, the Silver black velvet - people seem to be recommending a size 8? I'd only be able to get one of those not a full set, so it would need to be a brush I could use for everything including fine details if I got one of them. Also the Princeton aqua elite seems to be recommended a lot - but I'd only be able to get one of those if it was that brand, so would want to know the best size to get. I'm a complete beginner with no experience, and will probably mainly want to paint animals, sunsets and flowers, maybe try some creative things as well. I'd rather get something I'll enjoy using and be able to see results with as I progress than just buy a cheap set that frustrates me when I'm trying to learn, but at the same time don't want to go overboard spending money at this stage when I don't really know what I'm doing yet.
