where can i buy r22 refrigerant online?

You can buy R22 (Freon) refrigerant online through specialized HVAC and refrigerant supply websites, but federal regulations require you to meet specific legal criteria before a vendor will ship it to you.abilityrefrigerants.com

Important EPA Requirement

Under EPA Section 608 regulations, R22 is an HCFC-22 ozone-depleting refrigerant, meaning you must be an EPA-certified technician (Section 608 Universal or Type II) to purchase it. Most reputable online storefronts will require you to submit or upload proof of your EPA certification before they fulfill and ship your order.[1][2]

Where to Look Online

*Impact Recovery * : Offers smaller containers like Impact Recovery R22 5 lb Cylinders geared toward quick top-offs and repairs.

*Ability Refrigerants * : Stocks virgin and sealed R22 cylinders in varying weights (such as Ability Refrigerants R-22 5 lbs ) with domestic shipping.

*Equipment Surplus List * : Frequently lists industrial-sized options like DuPont R22 Virgin 30 lb Cylinders requiring a direct EPA certificate upload.

Other Specialty Suppliers : Retailers like Arctic Refrigerants and various independent refrigerant distribution sites carry larger 10 lb to 30 lb cylinders.[abilityrefrigerants.com](https://abilityrefrigerants.com/product/r22-refrigerant-5-lbs/)[2][3]

If you can share what size cylinder you need (e.g., 5 lb vs 30 lb) or whether you are looking for drop-in R22 alternatives/replacements instead of true R22, I can point you toward the most appropriate options.

You can buy R-22 (often called Freon) refrigerant online , but federal law strictly restricts the sale of ozone-depleting HCFCs. Under EPA Section 608 guidelines, online retailers are legally required to verify that you—or a company employing you—hold a valid EPA Section 608 Technician Certification before they will ship pressurized refrigerant cylinders.[epa.gov](https://www.epa.gov/section608/refrigerant-sales-restriction)[2][shop.chillercity.com](https://icecorerefrigerants.com/blogs/news/can-you-still-buy-r22-refrigerant-in-the-usa)

If you are a certified technician or purchasing for a licensed HVAC business, several online HVAC supply platforms and specialized refrigerant distributors stock R-22 (typically available as reclaimed, recycled, or remaining legal stockpiles).[epa.gov](https://shop.chillercity.com/blogs/where-can-i-buy-r-22-in-the-u-s-in-2026/where-can-i-buy-r-22-in-the-u-s-in-2026)[[2](https://icecorerefrigerants.com/blogs/news/can-you-still-buy-r22-refrigerant-in-the-usa)](https://icecorerefrigerants.com/blogs/news/can-you-still-buy-r22-refrigerant-in-the-usa)

Where to Look Online

1. • Impact Recovery USA — Offers smaller quantities like R22 Refrigerant 5 lb Cylinders for localized service calls, explicitly noting the EPA Section 608 requirement.epa.gov
2. • IceCold.us — Another specialized online supplier providing R-22 5 lb Cylinders for targeted residential maintenance.epa.gov
3. • — Carries bulk options like 30 lb R-22 Refrigerant Cylinders for wholesale and certified contractors.

What to Keep in Mind Before Buying

• Have your credentials ready: Be prepared to upload or email a copy of your EPA Section 608 certification card or contractor license during or immediately after checkout. Reputable vendors will stall or cancel fulfillment without it.
• Cost vs. Alternatives: Because the production and import of virgin R-22 has ended, prices remain high compared to modern alternatives. If your system has a major leak, buying multiple pounds of R-22 is often a losing financial battle. Ask a professional if a drop-in or retrofit alternative (like R-407C or others, depending on system oil compatibility) makes more economic sense than continuing to patch an R-22 system.[epa.gov](https://icecorerefrigerants.com/blogs/news/can-you-still-buy-r22-refrigerant-in-the-usa)

Important Requirements Before Buying

• EPA Certification Required: Under EPA Section 608 regulations, R-22 is an ozone-depleting substance, meaning online retailers are legally required to verify that you are an EPA Section 608 Certified Technician before shipping. • Pricing & Availability: Because R-22 production and import have completely ceased in the U.S., available stock relies on reclaimed or remaining virgin inventory, making it quite expensive (often ranging from $175 to over $800 depending on cylinder size like 5 lbs or 30 lbs).[refrigerantscenter.com](https://refrigerantscenter.com/blogs/refrigerant-review/where-to-buy-r22-and-replacements)[2][3][4]

Are you certified with an EPA Section 608 license , or are you looking for alternative drop-in replacement refrigerants that don't require a commercial license to purchase?

If you’re in the U.S., you can buy R-22 (HCFC-22/Freon-22) online from refrigerant suppliers, but there are purchase restrictions: for stationary air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, federal rules generally require the buyer to be an EPA Section 608 certified technician (or an authorized representative/employer arrangement). US EPA US EPA R-22 production was phased out, so most available supply is reclaimed or existing stock for servicing older systems.US EPA

Some online sources that list R-22 include:

• Refrigerant Inc. — lists R-22 cylinders and states certification is required for purchase.Refrigerant Inc
• Yardanvil — lists reclaimed R-22 cylinders and EPA verification requirements.Yard Anvil USA
• Delta Refrigerants LLC — lists R-22 cylinders for legacy system servicing with certification verification.Delta Refrigerants

Before ordering, check:

• Your system actually requires R-22 (many newer systems use R-410A, R-32, R-454B, etc.).
• The seller’s certification requirements and shipping rules.
• Whether repair, leak testing, or replacement of an older R-22 system is more cost-effective than recharging it.
