For most people, the best place to find cheap plane tickets is Google Flights. My recommendation is to compare prices there first, then buy your ticket directly from the airline whenever possible. That gives you a good balance of price, convenience, and support if your travel plans change.
1. Google Flights — Best overall
(My top pick)
Compare multiple airlines, find cheaper travel dates on the calendar, and track fares for price changes.
Best for: most domestic and international trips.
Search flights on Google Flights
2. Skyscanner — Best for bargain hunting
Compares airline and travel-agency fares, with flexible-date and “Everywhere” searches if you're open to options.
3. KAYAK — Best for a second price check
Compare more flight offers and check whether a different booking provider has a better deal.
4. The airline's official website — Best for booking
Once you've found a good fare, check the airline's own website. Booking directly can make changes, cancellations, and disruption assistance simpler than dealing with a third-party agency.
Tell me what city you're leaving from, what city you're flying to, and your travel date. I'll help you compare your options and find a good fare.

The best place to buy plane tickets depends on whether you want to compare prices across different airlines or book directly for better customer service. For finding the cheapest flights, Google Flights and SkyScanner are the top choices, while booking directly on the airline's official website is best for easy changes and refunds.

What are the best ways to find great deals on last-minute flights?
Summary
Alphabet is the usual answer for securing last-minute discounts. Answers emphasize tracking price drops and watching sudden fare fluctuations.
| • Compares hundreds of sites at once |
| • Excellent price tracking and charts |
| • Links directly to airlines | • You cannot book directly on the platform |
| • Prices can sometimes change when clicking through |
| Airline Websites (Direct) | Delta, United, Southwest , etc. | • Easiest change and refund policies |
| • Direct customer support |
| • Earn loyalty miles easily | • Only shows that specific airline's routes |
| • Missing out on mixed-airline deals |
| Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) | Expedia, Booking.com, Hopper | • Great for bundling flights + hotels |
| • Rewards programs across brands | • Customer service can be difficult for flight changes |

Why Google Flights? It is extremely fast, has excellent date-price comparisons, price tracking, and an Explore map. Its current “Cheapest” tab can also surface additional online-travel-agency fares.
However, no single site is always cheapest. A recent 2026 comparison found Skyscanner had the lowest fare on 6 of 8 sample routes, while KAYAK won 2; differences were sometimes caused by self-transfers and complicated itineraries.
Bottom line: If you want just one site, choose Google Flights. If your #1 priority is squeezing out the lowest possible price, compare Google Flights + Skyscanner + KAYAK before booking.
The best site to book flights depends on whether you want to compare all available options (aggregators) or book directly with the airline for better customer protection. For most travelers, Google Flights is the ultimate starting point because it is the fastest, most unbiased search engine that tracks historical price data without charging hidden fees.
These sites search hundreds of airlines and online travel agencies (OTAs) simultaneously to find the cheapest dates and routes. They do not sell tickets directly; instead, they forward you to the airline or an OTA to complete your purchase.
If you prefer booking flight, hotel, and car rental bundles together to save money, booking through a reputable OTA can be highly convenient.
While search engines are perfect for finding the cheapest routes, booking directly on the airline's official website (like Delta, United, or Ryanair) is highly recommended.
If a flight is delayed, canceled, or requires a schedule change, dealing directly with airline customer service is significantly easier and faster than navigating a third-party OTA's customer support line.
| Platform | Type | Best For | Standout Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Flights | Search Engine | Speed & Price Tracking | Historical price charts & tracking alerts |
| Skyscanner | Search Engine | Flexible Destinations | "Search Everywhere" exploration tool |
