Acts2 Network is a Christian ministry network focused on church planting, discipleship, and developing “lifelong kingdom workers,” especially among college students, young adults, and local communities. It describes itself as a family of churches built around shared practices, relationships, and a mission to help ordinary believers participate in ministry.
Background and history
Acts2 Network traces its roots to a college ministry that began at the University of California, Berkeley in the 1980s and later developed into a broader church-planting movement.
The organization was previously known as Gracepoint Ministries. In 2023, it adopted the Acts2 Network name to reflect its expansion beyond a single church identity into a network of ministries.
Its stated mission is “Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town.”
What it does
According to its own materials, Acts2 Network focuses on:
Acts2 Network is a family of churches and ministry organizations across the United States, with headquarters in Elgin, Illinois . Its core mission centers around youth and college students , aiming to "launch lifelong kingdom workers from every college town". [](]()]()
College and young adult ministry — building communities around campuses and helping students grow in Christian faith.
Church planting — establishing and supporting churches in different locations.
Discipleship and leadership development — encouraging members to serve, mentor others, and participate in ministry.
Co-vocational ministry — many participants combine regular careers with ministry involvement.
Missions — the network reports sending members for overseas mission work and partnering with other mission organizations.
Beliefs and structure
Acts2 Network identifies as a Christian network rooted in the New Testament book of Acts, especially the picture of the early church in Acts 2: community, shared life, prayer, and mission. Acts2 Network It is affiliated with the SEND Network.
The network uses a shared set of practices often referred to as its “Way of Life,” which guides community life and spiritual formation among members.
Public discussion and criticism
Like some fast-growing religious networks, Acts2 Network has received both support from participants and criticism from former members and outside observers.
Supporters commonly highlight its strong community life, mentoring, discipleship emphasis, and commitment to serving students and local communities.
Critics, including some former members and journalists, have raised concerns about aspects of the organization’s culture and practices, including reports involving leadership dynamics, expectations placed on members, and community control. These concerns have been disputed or framed differently by supporters of the organization.
If you’re asking because you’re considering attending an Acts2 Network church, joining a campus group, or researching its history, I can also give a more focused overview of its doctrine, leadership structure, campus activities, or controversies.
Here is a breakdown of its background, mission, and structure:
Origins & Name Change: The network traces its roots back to 1981 when Berkland Baptist Church was founded near UC Berkeley. The congregation later rebranded as Gracepoint (and Gracepoint Berkeley Church) as it planted collegiate churches across the U.S. In 2023, to reflect an expansion beyond just college campuses into broader community and youth ministries (such as Area Youth Ministry), the organization officially changed its name to Acts2 Network.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
The "Way of Life": Members of the network align around a published Way of Life , which consists of 15 core principles guiding their spiritual disciplines, daily community life, and shared commitments.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Covacational Focus: The network features over 1,800 members engaged in covocational ministry, meaning individuals maintain regular secular day jobs while actively participating in ministry outside of working hours.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
There are two similarly named organizations called Acts2 Network.
Acts2 Network (acts2.network): A U.S. Christian church network that grew out of the former Gracepoint network. Its stated mission is to launch “lifelong kingdom workers from every college town,” emphasizing discipleship, church planting, shared community practices, and co-vocational ministry—people combining ordinary careers with ministry. It reports 1,900+ team members and is part of the SEND Network.
Acts 2 Network (acts2network.org): A separate coalition of independent churches and pastors focused on leadership development, church planting, ordination, and ministry resources.
The first organization has a significant historical connection to Gracepoint, including a 2023 rebranding. There have also been public criticisms and allegations concerning Gracepoint's practices, which are worth examining separately from the network's current self-description.
If you mean the Gracepoint → Acts2 Network organization, I can give you a deeper overview of its beliefs, structure, history, controversies, and what membership is reportedly like.
Roots: The network originated from Berkland Baptist Church , which was founded in 1981 near UC Berkeley by Paul and Rebekah Kim. It began as a college ministry targeting Korean Americans and later expanded to a broader Asian American and collegiate demographic.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Transition to Gracepoint: Over the years, leadership transitioned and the Berkeley congregation disaffiliated from Berkland, rebranding as Gracepoint in 2006. Gracepoint planted numerous collegiate-focused churches across the U.S. and expanded into youth ministry via Area Youth Ministry (AYM).[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Rebranding to Acts2 Network: To better reflect its broader scope and alignment beyond just individual local church names, the organization officially changed its name to Acts2 Network in 2023. Its motto shifted from "An Acts 2 church in every college town" to "Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town".[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Covocational Ministry: The network features a strong emphasis on covocational involvement. Many members maintain regular day jobs while actively engaging in ministry, discipleship, and church activities outside of their working hours.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Focus Areas: While it initially centered primarily on university campuses (such as UC Berkeley and subsequent college towns), the network encompasses multi-generational communities, families, and robust youth programs.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
If you mean Acts2 Network (acts2.network), it’s a U.S.-based Christian church network focused especially on college-town ministry, discipleship, church planting, and developing what it calls “lifelong kingdom workers.” It grew out of the ministry formerly known as Gracepoint and adopted the Acts2 Network name in 2023.
What it is
Acts2 describes itself as a network of churches and ministries, rather than simply a denomination. Its stated mission is “Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town.” It emphasizes:
Discipleship and evangelism
College and youth ministry
Church planting
“Co-vocational” ministry, where people combine regular employment with ministry
Developing leaders through a shared “Way of Life”
Sending people into domestic and international missions
The network says it has 1,900+ co-vocational and full-time team members serving across churches, campuses, cities, and ministry teams. It also says it is part of the SEND Network.
Its history
The organization's roots go back to a college ministry at UC Berkeley. According to its own history, the movement began planting churches and ministries in other college towns, expanded nationally, and eventually changed its name from Gracepoint to Acts2 Network in 2023. Its headquarters and training center are now in Elgin, Illinois.
Ed and Kelly Kang are prominent leaders in the network; Acts2 identifies Ed Kang as its Network Director.
Theology and organizational culture
Acts2's materials emphasize the book of Acts as a model for Christian community and mission. Its “Way of Life” centers on things such as spiritual growth, calling, relationships, community, serving, making disciples, and sharing the gospel in ordinary life.
One notable feature is that churches in the network are legally autonomous. Acts2 says participating churches remain independently governed rather than being branches directly controlled by the network.
An important part of the background
There is also substantial public controversy surrounding the organization's predecessor, Gracepoint. Journalists and former members have made allegations concerning aspects of its culture and practices, including intense expectations around ministry involvement, relationships, and leadership. These are allegations and interpretations from outside sources, rather than findings I would characterize as established facts without qualification.
That's worth knowing if you're considering joining an Acts2 church, working for the organization, or becoming heavily involved, because the history and culture of the former Gracepoint organization are relevant context.
There are also multiple organizations using the name “Acts 2 Network.” For example, a separate organization at acts2network.org describes itself as a coalition of independent churches offering pastoral support, ordination, and church-planting resources.
If you're asking because someone invited you to an Acts2 church or you're considering joining one, I can also give you a more detailed breakdown of its beliefs, leadership structure, practices, criticisms/controversies, and what former members have reported, with sources for each.
Evolution to Gracepoint: Over time, the network expanded to multiple college campuses, and the Berkeley church was renamed Gracepoint Fellowship Church. []()
Core Characteristics and Structure
Co-vocational Ministry: The network relies heavily on a model where its 1,800+ members maintain regular secular professions ("day jobs") while actively participating in unpaid or co-vocational ministry during their personal time.
The "Way of Life": Members of the network align under a published set of 15 spiritual and community principles known as their Way of Life , which governs their relational and devotional expectations.
Ministry Areas: The network operates multiple specialized arms targeting different demographics, including Acts2 College, Acts2 Youth, Acts2 Kids, Acts2 International, Acts2 Next , and Acts2 International/Elderly Care . On college campuses, they historically or currently operate under various student fellowship names (such as Acts2Fellowship, Klesis, and Kairos). [](]()](]()]()
There are at least two organizations using the name “Acts2 Network,” so it’s worth distinguishing them.
1. Acts2 Network — acts2.network
This is the larger, college-focused Christian church network that grew out of Gracepoint and its earlier history. Its current mission is “Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town.”
Its basic model is:
Church planting and multiplication, particularly around college communities.
Discipleship: helping ordinary Christians become lifelong participants in ministry rather than leaving ministry primarily to pastors.
Covocational ministry: many people serve in ministry while also working or studying in another vocation.
Youth, college, children's, international, and young-adult ministries.
A defined “Way of Life” built around practices of spiritual growth, calling, relationships, and community.
It is affiliated with the SEND Network, a church-planting network connected to the Southern Baptist Convention.
The organization says it now has 1,900+ covocational and full-time team members across its churches, cities, campuses, and ministry teams.
Its history is significant: the movement traces its roots to a college ministry at UC Berkeley, became Gracepoint in 2006, expanded into a nationwide church-planting movement, and adopted the name Acts2 Network in 2023.
One thing I would flag: Acts2/Gracepoint has also attracted substantial criticism. There have been reports and allegations concerning high-control practices, relationships, workload expectations, and monitoring of members. Those criticisms are important context if you're considering joining a church, ministry, or leadership program associated with it.
2. Acts 2 Network — acts2network.org
There's also a separate organization with a very similar name. It describes itself as a coalition of independent churches and pastors from different denominations. Its focus is equipping pastors, church planting, leadership development, ordination, and supporting churches, including ministry work in El Salvador.
It is led by Brandon Goff, listed as Executive Director/President.
So if someone simply says “Acts2 Network,” I wouldn't assume which organization they mean.
If you're asking because someone invited you to an Acts2 Network church/ministry, I can also give you a deeper assessment of its theology, leadership structure, practices, controversies, and what former/current members say—which is probably the more useful question if you're considering getting involved.
Covocational Focus: The network heavily emphasizes covocational ministry. Rather than relying solely on traditional full-time clergy, a large portion of its members maintain secular day jobs while actively engaging in ministry and leadership outside of working hours. [](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Campus-Centric Outposts: Much of their on-the-ground work occurs via localized groups, small-group Bible studies, mentorship pipelines, and community events tailored to university students. [](https://www.acts2college.org/)
Public Discussion and Criticisms
Like several intensely relational, high-commitment campus ministries, Acts2 Network has drawn both dedicated participation and public scrutiny:
Criticisms and Concerns: Former participants and online communities have raised concerns regarding heavy oversight. Some reports and critiques point to intense time commitments leading to burnout, heavy pressure to conform to group norms regarding major life choices (such as dating or career paths), and emotional distress or isolation from outside support systems. If you mean Acts2 Network at acts2.network, it is a U.S.-based Christian church/ministry network focused especially on college students, young adults, discipleship, church planting, and developing laypeople into long-term ministry workers.
What it is
Acts2 Network describes itself as “a family of churches where the church lives like family.” Its stated mission is “Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town.” The network says it now has 1,900+ co-vocational and full-time team members serving across churches, cities, campuses, and ministry teams.
A major distinctive is its emphasis on co-vocational ministry: many members have ordinary careers while also serving extensively in church ministry. Its ministries include:
Acts2 College
Acts2 Youth
Acts2 Kids
Acts2 International
Elderly Care
Acts2 Next, which works with college graduates and working professionals
It is also part of the SEND Network, connected with the Southern Baptist missions ecosystem.
Where it came from
The history is important because Acts2 Network is the newer name for a movement that previously operated as Gracepoint.
According to Acts2's own history, the movement traces its roots to a college ministry at UC Berkeley. In 2006, the Berkeley church became Gracepoint Fellowship Church and adopted the vision of “an Acts 2 church in every college town.” It subsequently planted churches and college ministries in cities across the U.S.
In 2021, the organization says it had expanded into a nationwide network of ministries, and in 2023 it changed its name to Acts2 Network, with the new mission of launching lifelong kingdom workers.
Today its headquarters are in Elgin, Illinois, where it opened an Acts2 Training Center in 2025.
Theology and culture
The organization puts considerable emphasis on:
Biblical discipleship and evangelism
Strong community and close relationships
Every believer participating in ministry rather than ministry being left primarily to pastors
College-campus evangelism and church planting
Small-group/community life
Sending people into missions
A structured “Way of Life” intended to shape how members relate to God, one another, and ministry
Its overseas missions have also expanded substantially. Acts2 says that from 2024–2026 it trained and sent 229 one-year missionaries to seven countries in Asia, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
An important caveat
If you're researching Acts2 because you're considering joining a church, working for them, or getting involved with one of their campus ministries, there's another side of the story worth knowing.
The organization has faced significant criticism and allegations concerning its former Gracepoint-era culture, including reports of excessive demands on members, relationship pressure, monitoring of members' behavior/technology, and other forms of high-control or unhealthy community dynamics. These allegations have been reported by journalists and discussed extensively by former members. The organization itself presents its history and current structure differently, so it's worth distinguishing documented organizational history, current official policies, and allegations from former members rather than treating all three as the same thing.
So, in short: Acts2 Network is a large, highly structured Christian church-planting and discipleship network with deep roots in the Berkeley/Gracepoint movement, a strong college-ministry focus, and an unusually intensive model of lay/co-vocational ministry.
If you're asking because you're evaluating Acts2 as a church or organization, I can also give you a deeper, neutral breakdown of its theology, leadership structure, membership expectations, controversies, and what former/current members say about it.
Campus Chapters: Individual ministries often go by local names such as Acts2Fellowship (A2F), Acts Collective , or Reclaimer College Church. [](]()](]()]()
The leadership of the network maintains that the "Way of Life" is a voluntary path intended to foster tight-knit biblical community and is not forced upon general church attendees. [](https://acts2.network/way-of-life)
Would you like to know if there is an Acts2 Network campus chapter at a specific university, or are you interested in a deeper look into their doctrinal statements?
Rebranding to Acts2 Network: In 2023, the organization formally changed its name to Acts2 Network to reflect a broader alliance of autonomous churches and ministries bound together by a shared mission rather than a single local church title. [](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
Expansion: The network opened a central training facility and headquarters in Elgin, Illinois, in 2025, and has expanded its footprint across North America (including Canada) and overseas. [](https://acts2.network/about/history-of-mission-expansion)
Covocational Ministry: The network relies heavily on a model where members work traditional day jobs but dedicate their outside hours to voluntary ministry.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts2_Network)
