I want a smaller layout but need arrows. What is the best 65% keyboard case with aluminum construction?

A 65% layout is the sweet spot for keeping a compact footprint while retaining dedicated arrow keys. Aluminum construction adds a premium heft, superior acoustics, and long-term durability.

The top options for an aluminum 65% keyboard case/kit range from budget-friendly value to enthusiast-grade custom builds:

Keychron Q2 QMK Custom Mechanical Keyboard features a solid full CNC-machined aluminum body, a double-gasket design for a cushioned typing feel, and open-source QMK/VIA programmability. It is available in fully assembled or barebones configurations, with optional rotary encoder knobs.

Available as a budget-to-mid-range CNC-machined, electrostatic-coated aluminum board, the Chilkey Paw65 Aluminum 65% Hotswap Wireless RGB Keyboard brings wireless connectivity (2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and wired) alongside a foam gasket-mount structure that punches well above its price tag.

If you want a tool-free experience, the Weikav Nut65 Wireless 65% Barebones uses a 6063 aluminum body with a dual gasket-mount design and an innovative ball-catch mechanism that lets you pop open the case without pulling out a screwdriver.

Part of Ducky’s enthusiast line, the Ducky Outlaw 65 Aluminum 65% DIY Kit is a high-end gasket-mount kit featuring a CNC aluminum case, carbon fiber bottom plate, and comprehensive QMK/VIA support packaged for a premium build experience.[1][2][3][4]

User Experiences

I love my Keychron Q2. The build quality is tank-like, and having QMK/VIA support means I can map the macro layers however I want.

If you want to narrow this down, let me know:

• Are you looking for a fully built keyboard or a barebones kit (needing your own switches and keycaps)?
• Is wireless capability (Bluetooth / 2.4GHz) a requirement, or will it stay plugged in via USB-C?

If you want a smaller layout but refuse to lose dedicated arrow keys, a 65% keyboard is the right size: it keeps the arrow cluster while removing the function row and numpad. For an aluminum case, these are the standouts:KeebTracker

• YUNZII AL68 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard - $109.99 (newegg.com)
• Keychron Q2 Custom Mechanical Keyboard - $99.99 (newegg.com)
• KBDfans TOFU65 3.0 Fully Assembled - $59.40 (KBDfans® Mechanical Keyboards Store)

My recommendation by use case

• Building your own: Bakeneko65

One thing to watch: if you mean a case only (not a complete keyboard), 65% cases are not universal. The PCB, plate, and mounting style have to match the case.KeebTracker

If you tell me your budget (for example under $100, $150, $250+) and whether you want wireless or wired, I can narrow it to one.

A 65% layout is the ultimate sweet spot for a compact footprint because it slims down the desk space while keeping dedicated arrow keys and a mini navigation cluster.

The top aluminum 65% keyboard cases and kits on the market balance pristine CNC aluminum construction, acoustics, and value:

• Neo65 (by Qwertykeys / Owlab): Widely considered the reigning champion of the mid-range enthusiast market. It features a stunning CNC aluminum case, a gorgeous weight option (brass or copper), incredible sound profiles, and a flexible or non-flex gasket-mount system. It punches way above its weight class for fit and finish, usually retailing around $120 - $150 depending on options.
• Keychron Q2 / Q2 Max: If you want an absolute tank of an all-metal build, the Keychron Q2 series (available as a barebone or fully assembled kit) features a massive CNC-machined 6063 aluminum body with a double-gasket design. The Q2 Max version adds 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth capabilities, making it immensely durable, heavy, and versatile.[1][2]
• Zoom65 (by Meletrix): Another legendary competitor in the budget-to-mid enthusiast tier. It features an aluminum case with a wide selection of colors, an internal weight, wireless/wired connectivity options, and a remarkably soft, bouncy typing feel right out of the box.
• Baion65: For those looking for an uncompromising, premium boutique aesthetic with a classic 7° typing angle and exquisite internal brass or copper weighting, the Baion65 offers top-tier enthusiast craftsmanship in a solid CNC aluminum chassis.

To help narrow down the best option for you, tell me:

• What is your budget range?
• Do you prefer wired-only or is wireless connectivity (Bluetooth / 2.4GHz) a must?
• Are you looking for a barebone kit (needing your own switches and keycaps) or a fully assembled board?

Yes — 65% is the sweet spot if you want a smaller footprint while keeping a dedicated arrow cluster.KeebTracker

If you literally mean a replacement case only rather than a complete keyboard, I'd lean Bakeneko65, but case compatibility is critical—the PCB, plate, and mounting points need to match.

If you tell me your budget (e.g. <$100, $150, $200) and whether you want case-only or a complete keyboard, I can narrow it to the 2–3 best choices.

If dedicated arrow keys are non-negotiable, 65% is the sweet spot: you lose the function row and numpad while keeping the arrow cluster.KeebFinder

My top picks

• CannonKeys Bakeneko65 - $149.99 (CannonKeys)

• YUNZII AL68 - $85.99 (Invokeys LLC)

• MK Point65 Keyboard Kit - $169.00 (Mechanical Keyboards)

• YUNZII AL68 Wireless - $109.99 (newegg.com)

• 🥇 Best custom build: Bakeneko65 — My pick if you specifically mean an aluminum case/kit. It's CNC aluminum, has a strong enthusiast reputation, and is currently $149.99.

• 🥈 Best value/prebuilt: YUNZII AL68 — CNC aluminum, gasket mount, hot-swap, QMK/VIA, and wireless. At roughly $110, it's an excellent all-around choice.

• 🥉 Premium option: MK Point65 — 6063 aluminum with both top-mount and gasket-mount configurations. The kit is $169; the prebuilt is $249.

• High-end enthusiast: Mode SixtyFive — better suited if you're after a premium custom/endgame board rather than value.

What I'd buy: the Bakeneko65 if you're building it yourself; the AL68 if you want to open the box and start typing.

One important distinction: if you literally want just a replacement aluminum case, rather than a complete keyboard/kit, tell me what PCB you have. 65% cases aren't universally interchangeable, so PCB/plate mounting compatibility matters.
