I am getting distracted by smartphone notifications. Who makes a "dumb phone" that only does calls and maps?

Finding a device that strictly limits you to calls, texts, and GPS navigation—without the endless doomscrolling and notification traps of a smartphone—is a popular quest. A few dedicated manufacturers build specialized "dumb phones" (feature phones) that feature built-in navigation like Waze or Google Maps while blocking social media, web browsers, and app stores.

The top options that fit this exact description include:

Sunbeam F1 Pro (Aspen / Maple models) : Manufactured by Sunbeam Wireless , these high-end, rugged 4G flip phones run a custom, minimalist operating system. They purposefully exclude web browsers and social media while supporting reliable calls, texts, and integrated navigation via Waze or Here Navigation. You can check them out directly or via specialized distributors like Dumb Wireless.

*Cat S22 Flip * : This is a rugged, budget-friendly Android Go flip phone. While it technically runs a stripped-down version of Android (meaning you can download the Google Maps app), its tiny 2.8-inch screen, physical T9 keypad, and clunky form factor make it a miserable device for mindless scrolling or social media, yet it handles phone calls and Google Maps/Waze surprisingly well.

Garmin inReach Mini 3 / Messenger : If you want to separate communication and navigation entirely from a traditional phone, Garmin makes compact satellite communicators with GPS tracking and interactive SOS. They don’t make cellular phone calls on their own, but they handle off-grid tracking, mapping, and texting if you want absolute minimalism outdoors.[1][2][3][4][5]

Are you looking for a traditional flip phone form factor like the Sunbeam, or would you consider a small minimalist candy-bar phone ? Let me know your preferred carrier, and I can check compatibility for you.

Yes. The interesting thing is that “calls + maps, but no distracting smartphone ecosystem” is a real category now.

The standout: Light Phone III

• Light Phone III - $899.00 (The Light Phone)

Light makes the Light Phone III, which is probably closest to what you're describing.

• Calls and texts
• Built-in Directions with turn-by-turn navigation
• No app store
• No web browser
• No social media
• No email/news feeds
• Minimalist monochrome interface
• Also has some optional utilities such as alarms, calendar, notes, music and podcastsThe Light Phone+1
• Light has continued adding improvements to its navigation tool, including a map view and bicycle routing.Light Phone

The catch is price: it's a premium minimalist phone, rather than a $50 basic flip phone.

If you want really dumb

Traditional 4G feature phones from Nokia/HMD and others are much cheaper and excellent for calls/texts, but maps are the problem. A phone having GPS hardware doesn't necessarily mean it has usable navigation.Ban the Bots

So I'd narrow it down this way:

• Light Phone III - $899.00 (The Light Phone)
• CAT S22 Flip - $194.99 (Cell2Get)
• TCL Flip 3 - $29.88 (Walmart)

For your particular goal of reducing notifications, I'd pay particular attention to the Light Phone III: Consumer Reports describes it as a minimalist smartphone alternative with calls, texts and directions while deliberately leaving out the usual smartphone ecosystem.Consumer Reports

If you tell me your carrier (Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile/etc.) and roughly what you'd like to spend, I can narrow this to 2–3 phones that will actually work on your network.

Yes. If your goal is “calls + navigation, but no smartphone rabbit hole,” there are a few good options.

Best matches

• Light Phone III — probably the closest match. It does calls, texts, and turn-by-turn directions, while deliberately leaving out an app store, web browser, social media, and email. Consumer Reports also confirms its directions feature.Consumer Reports+1

• Light Phone III - $899.00 (The Light Phone)

• Mudita Kompakt — an E-ink minimalist phone with offline turn-by-turn navigation. It's worth considering if you want something that feels especially unlike a smartphone.Ban the Bots

• Sunbeam F1 — a very stripped-down flip phone that includes navigation. It's more traditional-looking and focused on basic communication than the Light Phone.DumbPhoneGuide

One important gotcha

Punkt MP02 looks like an obvious choice for avoiding distractions, but it doesn't actually have maps/navigation. It has GPS hardware, but Punkt says it's not used for navigation.Punkt Help Center

So, for your particular requirement, I'd start with the Light Phone III. It gives you the useful escape hatch of maps without putting an app store, browser, Instagram, etc. back in your pocket.

If you tell me your carrier (T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, etc.) and roughly what you want to spend, I can narrow this to the phones that will actually work for you in the U.S.

Finding a "dumb phone" or minimalist phone that supports navigation/maps—while successfully blocking social media, web browsing, and endless notification pings—is a specific niche, but a few dedicated manufacturers have solved this exact problem.

The top options that offer calls, texts, and dedicated map functionality without the smartphone trap include:

• The Setup: A rugged, high-end flip phone running a custom, locked-down operating system. It completely lacks a web browser, app store, and social media.

• Maps Feature: It comes built-in with Waze Navigation (and HERE Navigation depending on the exact sub-model) displayed on its screen, giving you turn-by-turn guidance without opening the door to internet rabbit holes.

• Where to look: Check out the lineup directly from Sunbeam Wireless or specialized distributors like Dumb Wireless.

• The Setup: A sleek, award-winning minimalist device featuring an eye-friendly, glare-free 4.3-inch E-Ink display. It runs a custom de-googled OS designed explicitly to eliminate digital noise, tracking, and ads.

• Maps Feature: It includes built-in offline maps with turn-by-turn voice guidance for walking, cycling, or driving on a stripped-back, monochrome interface.

• Where to look: View specs and availability on the Mudita Official Store or via Dumb Wireless.

• The Setup: While technically an ultra-small Android smartphone (about the size of a credit card), a lot of digital minimalists buy this tiny device and purposefully only install Google Maps, Phone, and a messaging app.

• Why it works: Because of the tiny 3-inch screen and cramped keyboard, mindless scrolling and social media usage become physically tedious and unappealing—effectively turning a mini-smartphone into an intentional tool.

• Where to look: Find details on the Unihertz Store.[1][2][3][4][5]

Would you prefer a flip phone form factor (like the Sunbeam) or a modern candy-bar style with an E-Ink screen (like the Mudita)? I can help narrow down which one works best for your local cellular carrier.

Yes. If your goal is “calls + usable navigation, but no social media/app-store rabbit hole,” there are a few good options in 2026.

My top picks

• Light — Light Phone III: Probably the cleanest match. It does calls/texts and has a built-in Directions tool for driving, walking, and transit, while deliberately leaving out an app store, browser, email, and social media.Consumer Reports+1

• Light Phone III - $899.00 (The Light Phone)

• Mudita — Mudita Kompakt: Another excellent fit, particularly if you want an E Ink screen. It has calls, texts, and built-in/offline turn-by-turn navigation, without a conventional app store.Mudita

• Punkt — MP02: Even more stripped down, but not suitable if maps are essential. It has GPS hardware but no maps/navigation app.Ban the Bots

What I'd choose

For your particular problem—notifications are distracting you—I'd lean toward the Light Phone III. It's intentionally designed around a small collection of tools rather than apps, so you retain navigation without carrying a pocket-sized internet.Consumer Reports

If you want something cheaper and more old-school, there's also a clever workaround: DumbMaps can send turn-by-turn Google Maps directions to essentially any phone capable of texting.DumbMaps

If you tell me your carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.) and whether you need driving, walking, or transit maps, I can narrow it to the best phone that will actually work for you.

Finding a "dumb phone" (feature phone) with a built-in, reliable maps and turn-by-turn GPS navigation application is surprisingly difficult because traditional feature-phone operating systems (like standard KaiOS or Mocor RTOS) either lack GPS hardware entirely or only support sluggish, text-based map lookups rather than active driving/walking directions.

However, a few specialized manufacturers and devices bridge this gap by offering distraction-free communication alongside dedicated navigation support:

• [Sunbeam F1 Pro (Aspen / Juniper)](https://dumbwireless.com/products/sunbeam-f1-pro-1?variant=45990873464987&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOord859Amuvqq8m8mQJAfQFzb0VRJEn9sEpSQKU5zU2DGZSlssLLcMY) : Made by Sunbeam Wireless , this is widely considered the gold standard for modern, premium digital minimalism. It is a rugged flip phone that runs a custom, locked-down operating system with no web browser, no app store, and no social media . Crucially, it features built-in touch-screen navigation supporting Waze and HERE Navigation . It handles calls and texts brilliantly while giving you full, functional GPS. (Note: They are on the pricier side for dumb phones, usually retailing around $350+ ).
• Nokia (HMD Global) KaiOS Flip Phones (e.g., Nokia 2780 Flip) : If you want a cheaper alternative, select Nokia flip phones run on KaiOS and include a very basic, stripped-down version of Google Maps . Keep in mind that it operates more like old-school MapQuest (static text directions and basic mapping points) rather than a smooth, fluid smartphone GPS experience with dynamic voice-guided routing. It does have a web browser, but it's clunky enough that you won't be tempted to doomscroll on it.
• The "Two-Device" Alternative (Punkt or Light Phone + Dedicated GPS) : Many minimalists choose a true talk-and-text dumb phone like the Punkt. MP02 or the Light Phone II , which completely omit maps to stay distraction-free. Instead, they rely on a dedicated standalone car GPS unit (like a Garmin) or keep an old smartphone in the glovebox strictly powered off and offline for emergency map utility.

To help narrow down the best option for you, could you tell me:

• Do you need true turn-by-turn voice GPS for driving, or just basic public transit/walking directions?
• What is your budget?

Yes. If calls + maps/navigation are the two things you want to keep, the standout is the Light Phone III.

• Light Phone III - $899.00 (The Light Phone)

Best fit: Light Phone III

• Calls and texts: yes.
• Maps/navigation: yes—the built-in Directions tool provides driving and walking directions, powered by HERE.The Light Phone+1
• No app store, browser, social media, email, or news feeds: that's the key to its distraction-free design.Consumer Reports
• It has a monochrome interface and intentionally limited tools rather than letting you install whatever apps you want.
• Downside: it's expensive for a "dumb phone"—roughly $600–$700 depending on the current offering—and texting/group-message compatibility can be a consideration.Reddit

Other options

• Punkt MP02: even more stripped-down and excellent if you truly want calls/texts, but it does not have maps/navigation despite having GPS hardware.Punkt Support
• Mudita Kompakt: another minimalist option with offline turn-by-turn navigation. It's a little more capable than the Light Phone, so there's somewhat more temptation to tinker with it.Ban the Bots
• Nokia 2780 Flip: inexpensive and very basic, but I'd not choose it specifically for maps. The old KaiOS/Google Maps situation has become unreliable compared with dedicated minimalist phones.DumbPhoneGuide+1

My pick for your particular problem: Light Phone III. It's specifically designed around "I need a phone, but I don't want a tiny computer constantly asking for my attention."The Light Phone

If you tell me your carrier (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) and your budget, I can narrow it down to the best 2–3 choices that will actually work in the U.S.
