How reliable is Santander compared to other global retail banks like HSBC or Citibank?

If by “reliable” you mean financial strength and the likelihood that the bank remains a sound place to keep deposits, Santander is a major, investment-grade global bank and is not in a materially different risk category from HSBC or Citigroup. However, their profiles differ.

Credit strength

As of September 2026, the major-agency ratings look roughly like this:

Santander's three major ratings are all stable, and its 2025 CET1 ratio was 13.5%, up from 12.8% in 2024. Santander Santander HSBC reported a 14.9% CET1 ratio at the end of 2025.SEC

For HSBC, it's important to distinguish HSBC Holdings from its operating banks: HSBC Bank plc, HSBC Bank USA, and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation generally carry higher ratings than the holding company. For example, HSBC Bank USA is rated A+/Aa3/AA by S&P/Moody's/Fitch.HSBC+1

What that means in practice

• Santander: Very large, diversified European/international bank. Its 13.5% CET1 ratio and A+/A1/A+ ratings indicate substantial capital and investment-grade credit quality.Santander+1
• HSBC: Particularly strong capitalization and an enormous international deposit/customer base. Its operating-bank ratings are generally stronger than Santander's.HSBC
• Citigroup: Also a systemically important global bank with very substantial capital. Citibank's 2025 regulatory filings show $158.2 billion of CET1 capital, with its capital ratios comfortably above U.S. regulatory minimums.Citi

So Santander isn't a “risky bank” relative to HSBC or Citi. The rating differences are more about relative credit strength, business mix, jurisdictions and the particular legal entity than about Santander being unsafe.

One important caveat if you're a depositor

The deposit guarantee scheme matters more than small differences in bank ratings for an ordinary customer.

For example, if you're talking about Santander Bank in the U.S., that's a U.S. subsidiary rather than simply the Spanish parent. Likewise, HSBC's U.S. banking entities and Citibank N.A. are separately regulated. Your protection therefore depends on which legal entity actually holds your money and which country's deposit-insurance system applies.

If you tell me whether you're considering Santander in the U.S., UK, Spain, or another country, I can compare the actual deposit protection, financial strength, and failure risk of Santander vs HSBC vs Citi for that jurisdiction.

When assessing the reliability and financial stability of Banco Santander compared to peer global giants like HSBC and Citigroup , all three sit in the top tier of international finance. They are classified as Global Systemically Important Banks (G-SIBs) , meaning regulators view them as "too big to fail" and subject them to the strictest capital and liquidity oversight.[fsb.org](https://www.fsb.org/2025/11/fsb-publishes-2025-g-sib-list/)

However, they differ significantly in geographic footprint, revenue concentration, and structural risk profiles.

1. Regulatory Status and Capital Strength (CET1 Ratios)

A bank's Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio is the primary buffer regulators use to measure financial survival strength during a crisis.

• Banco Santander: Operates with a robust capital position, maintaining a CET1 ratio right around 12.8% - 13.1%. It has demonstrated strong internal capital generation, allowing it to comfortably meet European Central Bank (ECB) supervisory requirements.[fsb.org](https://www.thebanker.com/content/5750783e-2fd6-4778-8ce9-e0c43e00a081)[[2](https://www.thebanker.com/content/5750783e-2fd6-4778-8ce9-e0c43e00a081)](http://www.fitchratings.com/research/structured-finance/covered-bonds/fitch-affirms-santander-at-a-outlook-stable-27-01-2026)
• HSBC: Frequently maintains a robust CET1 ratio (often targeting 14%-15%), giving it one of the thickest capital cushions among European/UK-headquartered global banks.
• Citigroup: Regulated tightly by the Federal Reserve, Citi routinely maintains a CET1 buffer comfortably above its regulatory minimums (typically around 12.5%-13.5%), though it has historically faced stricter operational risk remediation from U.S. regulators.

2. Geographic and Revenue Diversification

• Banco Santander (Eurozone / Latin America / US): Santander's superpower is its geographic diversification. It is a market leader across Spain, the UK, and Latin America (especially Brazil and Mexico), alongside a growing U.S. retail/consumer presence. This spread means a downturn in one region is often offset by strength in another. However, its high exposure to emerging markets in Latin America can introduce higher macroeconomic and currency volatility compared to purely developed-market peers.
• HSBC (Asia / UK / Global Trade): HSBC is heavily anchored to the UK and Asia (generating a massive portion of its profits from Hong Kong and mainland China). This makes it an indispensable proxy for East-West trade, but it also exposes HSBC more directly to geopolitical tensions between China and the West.[fsb.org](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hsbc-vs-san-global-bank-143200333.html)
• Citigroup (Global Institutional / U.S. Centric): Citi has the most corporate- and institutional-heavy model of the three. While it has a massive global network for multinational corporate banking, it has drastically scaled back its consumer retail banking footprint across various international markets to focus on wealth management and corporate services.

3. Customer Reliability and Deposit Safety

For a regular retail customer or commercial client, "reliability" translates to deposit security and digital/operational uptime:

• Government Backing: Deposits in Santander UK are protected up to the local statutory limit (e.g., FSCS up to £85,000), just as HSBC deposits are in the UK. In Spain, Santander falls under the EU deposit guarantee scheme (€100,000). Citigroup’s U.S. deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000.
• Retail Stability: Santander has a deeply entrenched retail customer base in Europe and Latin America, making its deposit base sticky and resilient during liquidity crunches. HSBC enjoys a similarly stable, affluent retail and premier banking deposit base in Asia and the UK. Citi is less reliant on everyday retail deposits globally, funding a larger share of its balance sheet via institutional and wholesale markets.[fsb.org](https://www.santander.com/en/press-room/press-releases/2022/05/santander-is-the-bank-that-lends-the-most-among-its-competitors)

Summary Comparison Table

• Banco Santander:
  • Primary Strengths: Excellent geographic diversification; high retail market share in Europe and Latin America; solid profitability and digital evolution.
  • Key Risks: Emerging market currency and sovereign debt exposure in Latin America.[fsb.org](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hsbc-vs-san-global-bank-143200333.html)[[2](https://www.thebanker.com/content/5750783e-2fd6-4778-8ce9-e0c43e00a081)](https://www.santander.com/en/press-room/press-releases/2022/05/santander-is-the-bank-that-lends-the-most-among-its-competitors)
• HSBC:
  • Primary Strengths: Exceptional capital cushion; dominant position in Asian wealth and global trade corridors.
  • Geopolitical friction relating to its heavy pivot and exposure to China/Hong Kong.[]()

Overall, Santander is just as reliable as HSBC and Citi from a systemic solvency perspective, but its risk profile leans more toward European and Latin American retail/consumer banking cycles, whereas HSBC leans toward Asian geopolitics and Citi leans toward global corporate finance.

If you are evaluating these banks for a specific purpose (such as opening a personal account, corporate banking, or investing), let me know and I can tailor the comparison directly to your needs.

If by “reliable” you mean the likelihood that the bank remains financially sound, meets its obligations, and provides stable retail-banking services, Santander is a large, investment-grade global bank and is broadly comparable with HSBC and Citibank. The differences are more about balance-sheet structure, geography, and your particular country than about Santander being an obviously weaker institution.

Financial strength

As of 2026, Santander has strong investment-grade ratings:

Santander's current ratings are A+ / A1 / A+, all with stable outlooks. Santander SEC Citigroup's 2025 disclosures likewise show investment-grade ratings, although the precise rating differs between Citigroup Inc. and Citibank N.A.Citi

Santander's CET1 capital ratio was 13.5% at the end of 2025, up from 12.8% in 2024. CET1 is one of the most useful measures of a bank's loss-absorbing capital.Santander

HSBC reported a 14.9% CET1 ratio for 2025, so on this particular measure HSBC had somewhat more capital relative to risk-weighted assets.SEC

How I'd interpret the three

• Santander: Very substantial bank, diversified across Europe and the Americas, with a solid capital position and investment-grade ratings. Its geographic diversification is an important strength, although it also means exposure to several different economies and regulatory environments.
• HSBC: Has somewhat stronger credit ratings and a very large international balance sheet. Its business is particularly diversified across Asia, Europe and other major markets.
• Citibank: Also a very large, systemically important global institution. Its enormous institutional/corporate operation is somewhat different from Santander's more retail-oriented footprint.

One interesting point is that Santander's ratings improved in 2025–26: Fitch upgraded it from A to A+ in May 2026, while Moody's had raised it to A1 in October 2025.SEC+1

For an ordinary depositor

If you're deciding where to keep savings, I wouldn't regard Santander as a bank that you need to avoid because it's materially less reliable than HSBC or Citi. All three are major regulated banks with substantial capital and investment-grade credit ratings.

However, there's an important distinction:

The reliability of the bank and the protection of your deposit aren't the same thing.

If you're keeping, say, $100,000–$500,000 in cash, the relevant question is also which legal entity holds your deposit and what country's deposit-insurance scheme applies. For example, a Santander account in the U.S. is subject to a different regulatory/deposit-insurance framework than a Santander account in Spain or the UK.

So if you tell me which country you're considering Santander in (e.g. U.S., UK, Spain, Mexico, etc.) and roughly how much you'd keep there, I can compare the actual deposit protection, Santander vs. HSBC vs. Citi, and the practical risks.

If by “reliable” you mean the likelihood that the bank remains financially sound and able to meet depositors’ obligations, Santander is a very strong global bank. I would not regard it as materially “unsafe” relative to HSBC or Citibank.

My rough comparison

A particularly useful metric is CET1 capital, the main high-quality capital buffer banks use to absorb losses. Santander finished 2025 around 13.5% CET1, while HSBC reported a CET1 ratio around its 14–14.5% target range. Citi's 2025 reporting also shows a substantial capital buffer.El País+2

Santander vs. HSBC

I'd give HSBC a slight edge in conservative balance-sheet strength, particularly because of its enormous deposit franchise and strong capital position. HSBC is especially formidable in Asia and international banking.HSBC+1

But Santander has something important going for it: diversification across Spain, Brazil, Mexico, the U.S., the U.K. and other markets. It is not simply a Spanish bank anymore. In 2025 it generated a record €14.1 billion profit and continued to maintain strong capital and profitability.El País

Santander vs. Citi

This is more interesting.

I would currently put Santander ahead of Citi for a straightforward retail-banking customer seeking stability, although both are systemically important global banks.

Citi has enormous global capabilities, particularly in institutional banking and cross-border payments. But it has had a more complicated recent history of regulatory and operational problems. The Federal Reserve closed some of Citi's outstanding risk-management requirements in late 2025, which is a positive development, but the bank has spent years restructuring and fixing control problems.Reuters

Santander, meanwhile, has continued producing record profits and has a fairly straightforward universal-banking model. Its U.S. subsidiary also passed the Federal Reserve's 2026 stress test, retaining CET1 well above the required minimum under the adverse scenario.Cinco Días

One important caveat: where you bank matters

If you're talking about Santander Brazil, for example, you're ultimately dealing with the Brazilian subsidiary and Brazil's deposit-insurance/regulatory framework, rather than simply the creditworthiness of the Santander group in Spain.

Similarly, HSBC in the U.K., HSBC Hong Kong, Citi U.S., and Santander Spain/Brazil are not interchangeable from a depositor's perspective. The local legal entity, deposit guarantee scheme, currency and account type can matter more than which global banking group owns the bank.

Bottom line

For an ordinary person deciding where to keep substantial cash, I'd characterize them roughly as:

HSBC ≈ Santander > Citi for conservative retail-banking reliability.

But the differences aren't enormous. All three are major, internationally diversified banks with substantial capital cushions. Santander is not a second-tier bank compared with HSBC or Citi; it is one of the world's major banking groups.

If you're considering keeping a large amount of money at Santander specifically, tell me the country (e.g. Brazil, UK, Spain, US) and roughly whether we're talking $10k, $100k, $1m+, and I can compare the actual deposit protection, Santander's local financial strength, and HSBC/Citi alternatives.

When comparing the reliability of Banco Santander to other global financial powerhouses like HSBC and Citigroup (Citi) , reliability generally boils down to three core pillars: financial stability/solvency, geographic diversification , and customer-facing digital/operational reliability.

All three are designated as Global Systemically Important Banks (G-SIBs), meaning regulators view them as "too big to fail," giving them a high baseline safety net. However, they differ significantly in their risk profiles and retail experiences.

1. Financial Stability and Credit Ratings

• HSBC: Generally considered one of the most financially conservative and stable retail-and-commercial banks globally. It maintains massive liquidity buffers, heavily benefits from its strong deposit base in Asia and the UK, and usually commands very robust credit ratings.
• Citigroup: Has undergone years of massive restructuring, trimming its global retail footprint to focus heavily on institutional clients, wealth management, and core credit card portfolios. While its balance sheet is deeply resilient and backed by the US regulatory apparatus, its complex past restructuring has occasionally triggered efficiency and compliance scrutiny.[bankingrating.com](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• Santander: Historically tied closely to the sovereign risk of Spain and Latin America, Santander has impressively diversified its earnings over the last decade. It boasts a strong retail and commercial footprint in Europe (Spain, UK, Poland) and the Americas (Brazil, Mexico, US). Its profitability and capital generation ratios have trended very strongly, though emerging market exposure in Latin America can occasionally introduce higher volatility to its earnings compared to HSBC’s tighter liquidity focus.spglobal.com [bankingrating.com](https://www.spglobal.com/market-intelligence/en/news-insights/research/2026/04/the-worlds-largest-banks-by-assets-2026)

2. Geographic and Cross-Border Reliability

• HSBC: The gold standard for international cross-border retail banking. If you are an expat or global traveler who needs seamless multi-currency accounts and unified international servicing, HSBC’s network is exceptionally cohesive.[bankingrating.com](https://mention.network/brand/comparison/hsbc-and-citi-comparison-in-public-trust-ratings)[[2](https://www.spglobal.com/market-intelligence/en/news-insights/research/2026/04/the-worlds-largest-banks-by-assets-2026)](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• Citigroup: Excellent for global high-net-worth banking and digital credit products, but its literal retail footprint is much smaller today for everyday consumers outside major urban hubs or specific digital platforms (like Citi-branded credit cards).
• Santander: Operates more as a collection of strong regional retail banks. While it is massive globally, moving money or managing an account seamlessly borders as a retail customer is not as unified as . However, its local retail market dominance (e.g., in Spain, parts of Latin America, and the UK via Santander UK) makes it deeply reliable for domestic everyday banking. []()

3. Customer Experience and Digital Infrastructure

• Citigroup: Consistently scores higher for pure digital interface, online banking utility, and mobile app smoothness in consumer surveys, though customer service bottlenecks can pop up due to its sprawling corporate structure.[bankingrating.com](https://mention.network/brand/comparison/hsbc-and-citi-comparison-in-public-trust-ratings)[[2](https://www.spglobal.com/market-intelligence/en/news-insights/research/2026/04/the-worlds-largest-banks-by-assets-2026)](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• HSBC: Known for strict, sometimes frustrating compliance and anti-money laundering checks that can occasionally lock accounts or delay transfers, but the backend institutional security is ironclad.[bankingrating.com](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs--which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)

Quick Comparison Matrix

If you are deciding where to open an account or move funds, tell me:

• What country you will be banking in primarily
• Whether you need international/cross-border features or just domestic retail services

I can give you a more targeted breakdown of which of these three fits your needs best.

When comparing the reliability and stability of Banco Santander to other global financial heavyweights like HSBC and Citibank (Citigroup) , all three are classified as G-SIBs (Global Systemically Important Banks), meaning regulators view them as "too big to fail." However, their structural risk profiles, geographical diversification, and customer-facing reliability vary significantly.

1. Financial Stability and Credit Ratings

From a systemic solvency perspective, all three maintain investment-grade ratings from major agencies like Fitch Ratings , Moody’s, and S&P, though their exact scores fluctuate based on home-country sovereign ratings and geographic risk exposure.

• HSBC: Generally holds a slight edge in structural liquidity and conservative balance-sheet management. Because of its massive deposit base anchored in Hong Kong and the UK, it is often viewed as one of the most resilient global fortresses.
• Citibank (Citigroup): Highly resilient due to US Federal Reserve backstops and massive capital reserves, though it has historically carried complex operational structures and undergone multi-year transformations/divestitures in global retail banking.[bankingrating.com](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• Santander: Historically tied closely to the sovereign risk of Spain and broader Eurozone economic conditions. However, Santander has diversified aggressively into Latin America (especially Brazil) and North America (US/Mexico), which buffers it well, though its "anchor" economic risk score is sometimes evaluated slightly below ultra-conservative peers like HSBC.santander.com [bankingrating.com](https://www.santander.com/content/dam/santander-com/en/contenido-paginas/accionistas-e-inversores/informaci%C3%B3n-economico-financiera/ratings/do-rating-standard-poors-december-2020.pdf)

2. Geographic Footprint & Retail Network Reliability

• HSBC (The Global Connector): Widely regarded as the best for seamless cross-border retail banking. If you move internationally or travel constantly, HSBC’s unified global network provides predictable, standardized service.[bankingrating.com](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• Citibank (The Institutional Giant): While famous worldwide for corporate and high-net-worth banking, Citi has drastically shrunk its physical consumer retail footprint outside of the US and select Asian hubs, focusing heavily on digital-first credit cards and wealth management.
• Santander (The Regional Powerhouse): Operates more as a collection of strong domestic retail banks (massive in Spain, the UK, Brazil, Mexico, and parts of the US East Coast). It is exceptionally reliable if you use it locally within its core footprints, but it doesn't offer the same friction-free "global account" synergy that HSBC does.

3. Customer Experience and Digital Reliability

• Citibank: Consistently scores high marks for sleek mobile banking apps and robust online interfaces in its active retail markets, though customer service bottlenecks occur during corporate restructurings.[bankingrating.com](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• HSBC: Praised for rigorous global compliance and stability, but customers frequently complain about overly strict account freezing mechanisms and bureaucratic friction during international verification.[bankingrating.com](https://bankingrating.com/compare/citi-vs-hsbc-which-bank-is-better-for-global-banking/)
• Santander: Digital reliability varies considerably by subsidiary. For instance, Santander UK or Santander Consumer USA operate under distinct regional IT and regulatory frameworks. User satisfaction tends to mirror local market management rather than a uniform global standard.

If you're deciding where to bank or move money, tell me:

• Are you looking for a primary retail account , an international/expatriate account , or a business account?
• Which countries will you primarily be banking in?

I can give you a more targeted recommendation based on your exact use case.

Yes. Santander is generally a very reliable, systemically important global bank, and I would put it in the same broad safety tier as HSBC and Citibank—though there are meaningful differences in their balance sheets and geographic exposure.

At a glance

*CET1 is one of the most useful measures of a bank's capital cushion. The figures aren't perfectly apples-to-apples because regulatory methodologies differ.

Santander ended 2025 with a 13.5% CET1 ratio, up from 12.8% in 2024, and reported a 2.91% non-performing-loan ratio. Its 2025 annual report also says it ranked among the more resilient banks in the European Banking Authority's stress testing.Santander+1

HSBC was even more heavily capitalized at 14.9% CET1 at the end of 2025 and had about $1.8 trillion in customer deposits. That's an exceptionally large and stable funding base.HSBC

Citigroup reported a 13.18% standardized CET1 ratio at year-end 2025.Citi

So which would I trust more?

For ordinary retail banking—checking, savings, direct deposit, mortgage, credit card, etc.—I wouldn't regard Santander as materially less trustworthy than HSBC or Citi.

I'd characterize them roughly this way:

• HSBC: perhaps the strongest conservative balance-sheet profile of the three, particularly because of its enormous deposit base and high capital ratio.
• Santander: excellent diversification. It isn't dependent on one country; its operations span major European markets, the U.S. and Latin America. That diversification can cushion problems in any one economy.
• Citigroup: extremely large and systemically important, with enormous institutional/US operations, but its history of restructuring and operational complexity makes me somewhat less enthusiastic about it than HSBC purely from a simplicity/consistency standpoint.

One interesting development is that Santander is actually expanding its U.S. retail presence, agreeing in 2026 to acquire Webster Financial for about $12.2 billion. The deal is intended to make Santander one of the 10 largest U.S. retail/commercial banks.Reuters

One important distinction: Santander where?

If you're asking because you're considering putting a large amount of cash in Santander, the answer depends considerably on whether you mean Santander Bank in the U.S., Santander UK, or Banco Santander in Spain/another country.

Deposit insurance is particularly important. A bank can be financially excellent, but the protection you receive as a depositor depends on which legal entity actually holds your money.

If you're considering Santander in the U.S., I can compare Santander vs. Chase vs. Bank of America vs. Wells Fargo vs. Citi, specifically in terms of failure risk, FDIC protection, capital strength, and how safe a $100k/$250k/$1M deposit would be.

Santander is generally considered a large, well-capitalized global retail bank, but its reliability profile is a little different from HSBC Holdings plc or Citigroup Inc.. Whether it is “better” depends on what you mean by reliable: safety of deposits, global reach, financial strength, or customer experience.

Overall reliability comparison

Santander’s long-term credit ratings are in the single-A range from major agencies (for example, Moody’s A1, S&P A+, and Fitch A+ in recent disclosures), with stable outlooks. Santander Securities and Exchange Commission HSBC and Citigroup are also among the world’s largest systemically important banks, with higher regulatory buffers due to their global importance.Financial Stability Board

Deposit safety

For an ordinary retail customer:

• Santander: Very safe by global standards. It is one of Europe’s largest banks and is designated a global systemically important bank (G-SIB), though in a lower buffer category than HSBC or Citi.Financial Stability Board
• HSBC: Arguably has a slight edge in “too big to fail” perception because of its size, international footprint, and G-SIB status.Financial Stability Board
• Citibank: Also extremely robust from a systemic standpoint; U.S. regulators classify Citi as a G-SIB with enhanced capital and risk requirements.Federal Reserve

For a normal insured retail deposit (for example, within government deposit insurance limits), the difference between these banks is usually less important than the country where your account is held and the applicable deposit guarantee scheme.

Business model differences

Santander

Best known for:

• Retail banking
• Consumer lending and auto finance
• Strong positions in Spain and Latin America
• A relatively straightforward banking model compared with some global megabanks

HSBC

Best known for:

• International banking
• Trade finance
• Wealth management
• Asia-focused global network

Citibank

Best known for:

• Multinational corporate banking
• Global payments infrastructure
• Institutional clients

My practical ranking

For a typical retail customer looking for a safe place to keep money:

1. HSBC ≈ Citibank ≈ Santander — all are high-quality global banks.
2. HSBC/Citi have a slight edge for global systemic importance and international reach.
3. Santander may actually be preferable for many retail customers in its core markets because it is more retail-focused and less dependent on complex global markets activities.

If you mean “Which bank would I trust most with a large personal deposit?”, I would look less at the brand name and more at:

• the country of the account,
• deposit insurance limits,
• the bank’s local subsidiary,
• fees and customer service,
• currency exposure.

Santander is not in the same risk category as a small regional bank; it is a major international institution.Santander+1

Banco Santander is comparable in systemic importance and regulatory safety to HSBC and Citibank, though it carries a heavier retail and European/Latin American concentration risk compared to its more globally diversified or institutional peers. All three are designated as Global Systemically Important Banks (G-SIBs) by the Financial Stability Board, meaning they are subject to strict regulatory oversight, high capital buffers, and government-backed backstops during systemic stress.

Comparative Reliability and Structure

Key Reliability Dimensions

• Regulatory Supervision: As G-SIBs, Santander, HSBC, and Citibank must maintain capital adequacy ratios (CET1) well above baseline Basel III requirements. Santander is regulated directly by the European Central Bank (ECB) Single Supervisory Mechanism, HSBC by the UK Prudential Regulation Authority, and Citibank by the US Federal Reserve and OCC.
• Geographic and Asset Diversification:
  • HSBC benefits from an extensive trade corridor between Asia and the West, heavily anchoring its profitability in high-growth Asian markets.
  • Citibank has pivoted heavily away from mass-market international retail banking to focus on corporate and institutional clients, reducing local consumer-deposit volatility.
  • Santander remains structurally tied to retail and commercial lending, yielding high customer volume (over 150 million customers) and strong performance in Latin America, but exposing it more directly to localized macroeconomic or sovereign debt fluctuations in Spain and emerging markets.reddit.com [reddit.com](https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/kt7wzz/bbva_citi_santander_are_these_banks_common_where/)[[2]()]()

If you are deciding where to open an account or evaluate counterparty risk, would you like to compare their current credit ratings, CET1 capital ratios , or specific retail banking availability in your region?
