Where can I find platforms for shared rides between cities?

If you mean carpool-style rides where you share a driver’s car between cities, these are worth checking:

• blablacar.com — Large international carpooling network; particularly useful in Europe and many other countries.BlaBlaCar+1
• ridecarpooling.com — Focused on intercity carpooling in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, including routes such as New York–Washington, DC.RideCarpooling.com - Ubiquitous

• poolit.org — Community carpooling for professionals and students, including intercity trips in the U.S.Poolit
• ridesharego.com — Lets users post and book shared trips, including city-to-city travel.RideShareGo

If you're starting from New York City, tell me the destination (e.g. Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Montreal), and I can look for platforms that actually have rides on that route.

If you mean sharing a car with other people traveling between cities, rather than taking a bus or train, there are several options:

• hitch.com — A U.S. city-to-city rideshare service. You book a seat with a driver traveling your route; it currently operates in Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma.Hitch+1
• ridecarpooling.com — An intercity carpooling platform covering the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with routes including New York–Washington, DC.RideCarpooling.com - Ubiquitous+1
• Local/regional rideshare programs — Some areas operate their own carpool-matching services, often through transportation agencies or universities. For example, 511 Rideshare offers carpool matching in the San Francisco Bay Area.511.org

If you tell me your starting city and destination, I can look for platforms that actually have rides on that route and compare the options.

You can find shared long-distance rides and city-to-city carpools through dedicated intercity platforms like BlaBlaCar for international and regional travel, or Hitch for regional city-to-city rides (popular in regions like Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma).apps.apple.com

Popular Platforms for Intercity Shared Rides

• BlaBlaCar : Connects drivers who have empty seats with passengers heading to the same out-of-town destination. It specializes in long-distance and cross-border travel, allowing you to split fuel costs.
• Hitch : Focuses specifically on city-to-city rides and long-distance travel as a comfortable alternative to buses or traditional rideshares, offering both shared and private options.hitch.com+1
• Regional Commuter Vanpools & State Programs : Many state departments of transportation and regional transit authorities (such as Commuter Connections ) run organized database matching for regular long-distance commuters and intercity vanpools.omniride.com
• Poplar Local/Regional Groups : Informal networks like dedicated regional carpooling groups on Facebook or campus ride-share boards remain viable alternatives for specific college or commuter corridors.

If you share your departure city, destination , and region (e.g., US state or country) , I can check for the most specific local transit networks or options available for that route.

Finding a shared ride between cities depends heavily on your geographic region. While standard rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft focus primarily on local metro trips, dedicated long-distance carpooling and city-to-city platforms fill the gap for intercity travel.

The most active and reliable platforms categorized by region include:

• BlaBlaCar : The world’s largest long-distance carpooling network. It operates extensively across Europe, Latin America, India, and parts of Southeast Asia and North Africa (spanning over 40 countries). It connects drivers who have empty seats with passengers heading to the same city, splitting the travel costs.newsroom.blablacar.com+2
• Hitch : A prominent long-distance rideshare and city-to-city carpooling service operating within the United States (frequently connecting major regional hubs and neighboring cities). It functions as an intercity alternative to traditional short-trip ridesharing.hitch.com
• Poparide : The leading city-to-city carpooling platform in Canada, connecting drivers and passengers for intercity trips across provinces with online booking and verified user profiles.apps.apple.com+1
• Regional/Local Facebook Groups and Communities: In many parts of the U.S. and globally where dedicated apps haven't monopolized the market, active Facebook search terms like "[City A] to [City B] rideshare" or university-specific rideshare boards remain widely used to coordinate shared gas costs.
• Intercity Buses with Seat-Sharing/Flex-Models: While not peer-to-peer carpooling, services like FlixBus or Greyhound offer structured mass-ridesharing options between cities if peer-to-peer apps are unavailable in your target region.

If you'd like to narrow this down, let me know:

• What specific cities or countries you are trying to travel between
• Whether you are looking to drive and share costs or book a seat as a passenger

I can give you the exact app or transit method that fits that specific route.

If you mean city-to-city carpooling, where you share a ride with someone already driving that route, these are worth checking:

• poparide.com — Designed specifically for medium/long-distance trips between cities. Drivers post trips and passengers book individual seats. In the U.S., it currently operates in Texas, so it won't help much for Louisville routes yet.Poparide+1
• Every Commute Counts — A Louisville/Kentuckiana regional service that matches people for carpools and vanpools. It's more oriented toward commuting, but can be useful for recurring trips.Kentucky Transportation Cabinet+1
• Cardinal Directions — Louisville's UofL-affiliated carpool matching service, which is open to the broader community and can connect people for one-time or recurring carpools.Louisville.gov+1
• commutewithenterprise.com — Primarily for organized commuter carpools/vanpools rather than spontaneous intercity trips; it operates in Louisville.Commute with Enterprise

For occasional Louisville → Cincinnati, Nashville, Lexington, Indianapolis, Chicago, etc., the market for true peer-to-peer intercity ridesharing in the U.S. is surprisingly limited. Traditional bus services can sometimes be easier to find than a carpool.

If you tell me your starting city and destination, I can look for platforms that actually have rides on that particular route.

If you mean city-to-city carpooling, where you share a seat with someone already driving that route, these are good places to start:
