What's the best platform for aggregated news and forums?

If you mean one place that combines news aggregation with active forums/discussion, I’d put Reddit at the top for that specific combination. Reddit has thousands of communities, user-submitted links, voting, and comment threads, so news discovery and discussion happen in the same place.Reddit

But the tradeoffs are pretty significant:

My recommendation

For news + forums: Reddit For news aggregation + perspective: Ground News For a customizable personal news reader: Feedly

A particularly useful setup is Feedly + Reddit + Ground News: Feedly lets you follow publications, blogs, newsletters, Google News feeds, and even Reddit; Ground News groups coverage of the same story across many outlets.Feedly+1

If what you're really looking for is a Reddit-like site specifically designed around serious news rather than memes/social content, I can give you the best options in that narrower category.

When you want a single destination that blends news aggregation (headlines pulled from across the web) with active discussion forums (community comments, votes, and threads), the landscape splits depending on whether you want broad social discussion or niche topic tracking.

The top platforms serving this dual purpose include:

• Reddit : Unrivaled as the "front page of the internet", Reddit acts simultaneously as a massive real-time news aggregator and a collection of millions of niche, community-moderated forums (subreddits). Links to breaking news, long-form articles, and media are posted directly by users and ranked via upvotes, with deep threaded discussions attached to every piece of content.
• Techmeme : If your focus is strictly technology, startup, and digital media news, Techmeme is the gold standard. It combines algorithmic and human curation to feature the most critical tech stories of the day, immediately linking each headline to the exact blog posts, industry insider takes, and social media discussions swirling around that specific topic.
• Fark : A long-standing pioneer of community-driven news discovery. Fark features a human-curated feed of daily news links submitted by users, but its true value is its tight-knit, highly active comment threads where the community dissects, satirizes, and discusses the stories.
• Ground News : For a more analytical approach, Ground News aggregates news stories across the political spectrum, letting you see how different outlets frame the same headline. While not a traditional forum, it provides side-by-side media bias data, ownership transparency, and reader breakdown metrics that prompt heavy analytical discussion in its story sections.

If you have a specific niche in mind (such as tech, finance, gaming, or general world news) or prefer community-voted feeds over algorithmic curation , let me know and I can narrow down the ideal platform for your workflow.

If you mean one place that combines aggregated news with active forums/discussion, there isn't a perfect all-in-one, but these are the main options:

• Reddit — strongest combination of news discovery + forums. Thousands of topic-specific communities, voting, comments, links, and real-time discussion. It’s particularly good when you want to see what people are talking about, not just headlines.Google Play+1
• Feedly — better if you want control over the news sources. You can follow publications, blogs, industry sites, newsletters, and even Reddit content in one feed.Feedly
• Ground News — useful if you want multiple outlets covering the same story, with source-level information about ownership, factuality, and political orientation. It doesn't have Reddit-style forums, though.Zapier
• Google News — easiest for broad, general news aggregation and discovering stories, but it isn't really a forum/community platform.Readless
• Hacker News — excellent if your interests are technology, startups, programming, science, and tech culture, with substantial comment discussion.

If I were choosing based on your wording

Reddit is probably the closest match to “aggregated news + forums.” If you want a more deliberate news-reading setup, I'd pair Reddit + Feedly: Reddit for discussion/community and Feedly for curated source aggregation.

If you tell me what you want to aggregate—general news, local news, tech, finance, politics, niche hobbies, or basically “everything Reddit + news in one feed”—I can narrow it down considerably.

If you mean one place that combines news aggregation with active community discussion/forums, the options are a little different from traditional news aggregators.

• Reddit — strongest all-around combination of news discovery + forums. Communities let you follow specific subjects, and comments often provide context, links, and firsthand experiences. The tradeoff is that it isn't a systematic news aggregator, so important stories can be missed.Parse+1
• Google News — better for comprehensive news discovery and grouping multiple outlets around the same story, but its community/forum component is essentially absent.Readless
• Ground News — useful if you want stories aggregated from many outlets and want to compare how different publications cover them. It isn't really a forum platform.Zapier
• Feedly / Inoreader — best if you want to build your own information dashboard from publications, blogs, RSS feeds, and other sources. Community discussion is secondary.iTechGuides
• Hacker News — particularly good for technology, startups, programming, and research: news aggregation plus substantial comment discussion.daily.dev

If you want the closest thing to “news + forums in one”

Reddit is probably the closest fit. But if you want both breadth of news and quality discussion, a two-platform setup can work better: Google News or Ground News for finding stories + Reddit for discussion.

If you tell me what you mean by “forums” — general discussion, tech, local news, politics, hobbies, or something like old-school message boards — I can narrow it down considerably.

Reddit is the best overall platform combining aggregated news and community forums.

By blending real-time content aggregation (links, breaking stories, and media) with user-driven threaded discussion forums, it serves as a central hub where global news meets crowd-sourced commentary, fact-checking, and niche interest groups.

Top Platforms by Category

• Reddit : Best for combined news aggregation and massive, topic-specific discussion forums. It relies on user upvoting to surface top news stories alongside active community debates.
• Ground News : Best for pure news aggregation with a focus on media bias, contrasting how different political and global spectrums cover the same headlines.readless.app
• Google News : Best for automated, algorithmic aggregation across thousands of mainstream and local publishers, featuring a "Full Coverage" panel to compare multiple outlets.missiontolearn.com+1
• Flipboard : Best for a magazine-style visual layout that curates top stories and user-created boards based on specific personal interests.missiontolearn.com
• Hacker News : Best for tech, science, and startup-focused news aggregation coupled with high-signal, deep analytical comment threads.

If you want to narrow down the best choice, let me know:

• Are you looking for general world news , or a specific niche like tech, finance, or politics?
• Do you prefer a mobile app or a desktop website?

When you want a single destination that blends news aggregation (headlines pulled from across the web) with community discussion forums (user comments, upvoting, and deep-dive threads), a few standout platforms dominate the space depending on your exact vibe.readless.app+1

• Reddit (Best Overall & Broadest Range ) — Widely known as the "front page of the internet," Reddit functions as a massive social news aggregator split into thousands of niche communities (subreddits). You can follow breaking global news on main feeds or drop into hyper-specific forum boards for hobbies, tech, or local topics. Content is entirely crowd-curated via upvotes and downvotes.
• Hacker News (Best for Tech, Startups, and Intellectual Discourse ) — Run by Y Combinator, this minimalist text-based site operates right on the border of a news aggregator and a forum. Users submit links to interesting articles (heavily weighted toward tech, science, programming, and economics) and engage in notoriously high-quality, deeply threaded comment discussions.
• Fark (Best for Quirky/Viral News & Banter ) — A classic community-driven news aggregator. Instead of relying purely on a fast-moving algorithm, Fark features a mix of mainstream and offbeat, viral news items where users submit funny or stylized headlines and hash out opinions in an active, long-standing comment community.
• Techmeme (Best Purely for Tech Industry News ) — If your focus is strictly technology, business, and Silicon Valley developments, Techmeme aggregates top headlines and pairs them with rich contextual commentary and discussion from across the blogosphere and social feeds in a single, scannable page.

To help narrow down the ideal platform for you, let me know:

• What specific topics or industries (e.g., general news, tech, finance, pop culture) are you looking to follow?
• Do you prefer a community-voted social feed like Reddit or a clean, editor/algorithm-driven layout?

Best overall: Reddit if you want news aggregation + active forums in one place. It combines user-ranked news with topic-specific communities and threaded discussion.Wikipedia

Other strong choices:

• Ground News — best for comparing how different outlets cover the same story; less forum-oriented.Readless
• Feedly — best for building a highly customizable news feed from specific sources.Feedly
• Hacker News — excellent for technology/startups and thoughtful discussion, but narrow in scope.Hacker News

If you mean “one modern platform that feels like Reddit + Google News + forums,” Reddit is the closest fit.

If you mean one place where you can discover news and read substantive discussion/forums around it, my pick is Reddit—with an important caveat: it’s better at community discussion than at clean news aggregation.Wikipedia

Here’s how I’d rank the options:

• 🥇 Reddit — best overall for news + forums. Huge range of topic-specific communities, comments, links, and real-time reactions. The downside is noise and uneven quality.
• 🥈 Hacker News — best for high-quality tech/startup discussion. Excellent comments attached directly to news stories, but deliberately narrow: primarily technology, startups, and computing.Hacker News+1
• 🥉 Ground News — best for actually aggregating news. It pulls coverage from many outlets and emphasizes comparing sources and political bias, but it isn't really a forum/community platform.TechRadar+1
• Feedly / Inoreader — best for a personalized news dashboard. You choose the publications/feeds and get a much cleaner information stream, but discussion is largely absent.Digest+1

My recommendation

If your ideal experience is “show me what's happening, then let me see what smart people are saying about it”, I'd use:

Reddit + Ground News for general news, or Hacker News + an RSS reader if you're mostly interested in tech.

If you're looking for something specifically like “Reddit meets Google News”—a single platform that aggregates articles and has good threaded discussion—I can give you the closest alternatives, including some lesser-known ones.

When looking for platforms that seamlessly combine news aggregation with community discussions and forums , the "best" choice depends on whether you want broad social discussion, niche industry curation, or balanced media literacy.

The top platforms serving both news and active community forums include:

1. Reddit : The undisputed king of hybrid news-aggregation and forum culture. It aggregates breaking news, niche blog posts, and media from across the web, categorized into thousands of active, user-moderated communities (subreddits) where real-time discussion happens.
2. Fark : A long-standing community-driven site where an editorial team and users curate bizarre, funny, and mainstream news stories from around the web. Its primary draw is the witty, tight-knit comment threads and community engagement attached to every single shared link.
3. Ground News : While primarily a media bias aggregation tool rather than a traditional forum, it groups breaking news stories and lets users compare how different outlets across the political spectrum are covering them. It features active user comment sections keyed directly to media literacy and source evaluation.zapier.com+1
4. Techmeme : The gold standard if your focus is strictly technology, startup, and digital media news. It aggregates the most critical real-time tech headlines from across the web onto a single page and includes dedicated discussion threads where industry insiders and enthusiasts react.
5. Feedly : An advanced RSS/news aggregator that lets you curate your exact news feeds from primary sources. While it isn't an open public forum itself, its collaborative boards and enterprise sharing features allow teams and niche hobbyists to aggregate and discuss targeted content cleanly.readless.app+1

If you want to narrow this down, tell me:

• What specific topics or industries (politics, tech, local news, gaming) you want to follow
• Whether you prefer casual social media-style comments or structured professional forums

I can help you pick the ideal platform or combo of apps for your routine.
