MootUp holds a wide lead across the market, frequently recommended for browser-based 3D networking and avatar-driven virtual venues. For hosting virtual trade shows, however, vFairs is the usual answer.
If you need a virtual event platform with 3D networking environments, I’d start by comparing MootUp and vFairs. Both offer immersive virtual venues, but the best choice depends on whether you want a free-roaming 3D experience for networking or a more comprehensive event-management platform with registration, exhibitors, and analytics.
Top platforms to evaluate
1. MootUp
(Best for immersive 3D networking)
MootUp offers customizable 3D venues, avatars, networking lounges, exhibition booths, voice and video chat, and browser-based access. It also supports VR headsets and integrations with tools such as Zoom.
Gather uses walkable virtual spaces and spatial video chat, so conversations become clearer as attendees approach one another. It has a more playful, 2D pixel-art aesthetic than a realistic 3D metaverse.
Best for: Community meetups, informal networking, and smaller team events.
Remo offers customizable floor plans, virtual tables, video conversations, attendee profiles, and speed networking. It focuses on moving between conversations rather than navigating a fully 3D avatar world.
Best for: Business mixers, speed networking, workshops, and professional communities.
Start with MootUp if a genuine 3D environment is a must-have. Consider vFairs if you also need enterprise event registration, sponsor booths, matchmaking, and reporting. Compare both through a live demo before committing.
One question that would help me narrow this down: What kind of event are you hosting?
Top options for 3D and spatial networking environments include:
Gather (Gather.town) – The classic choice for 2D/3D retro tile-based interactive spaces. Attendees control a custom avatar and use proximity audio to naturally start or join conversations as they move closer to other groups. It features custom map building, integrated video/screensharing, and spotlight zones for main stages.[](https://flat.social/blog/best-virtual-conference-platforms)
SpatialChat – A browser-based spatial environment where users navigate bubbles representing themselves across a customizable visual background. Moving your avatar closer increases audio/video clarity, making it smooth and intuitive for spontaneous networking and virtual mingling without a heavy gaming client download.
MootUp – Built explicitly for true 3D immersive metaverse and enterprise events. It lets attendees create customized 3D avatars to explore life-like 3D expo halls, auditoriums, and networking lounges using any standard web browser, supporting real-time voice, video, and text chat.[](https://mootup.com/what-is-a-3d-virtual-event-platform/)
Next Reality Digital (NRD) – A browser-native spatial 3D platform designed for larger conferences and hybrid gatherings. Guests can move through rendered 3D venues as avatars, visit sponsor booths, and converse via spatial proximity without needing any software installations.[](https://nextreality.digital/solutions/virtual-event-platform)
Flat.social – A lighter, highly accessible spatial audio alternative that emphasizes ease of use, quick setup, and interactive collaboration features alongside natural movement and chatting.[](https://flat.social/blog/best-virtual-conference-platforms)
To help narrow down the ideal match, could you share:
How many attendees you expect at your event?
Do you prefer a 2D/retro gamified style (like Gather) or a fully 3D rendered environment (like MootUp)?
Do you need an integrated main stage/presentation streaming tool alongside the networking area?
If you are looking to host an online gathering that moves away from static grid-based video calls and leverages interactive, spatial environments for genuine networking, several standout platforms fit the bill. Depending on whether you want a retro 2D/3D hybrid, a fully rendered 3D world, or spatial-audio proximity chat , here are the top solutions:
Spatial: Designed explicitly for 3D immersive environments and metaverse-style events. It runs smoothly across browsers, mobile devices, and VR headsets, allowing for stunning architectural backdrops, live presentations, and expressive avatar-based networking.
Best fit: SpatialChat — it combines virtual event spaces with movement-based, proximity audio networking, so attendees can naturally move between conversations, booths, talks, and lounges. spatial.chat
Other strong options:
Virbela — best for a more immersive, avatar-based 3D world, including large conferences and expo halls; supports spatialized voice and thousands of attendees.
Oggi — browser-based 3D venues with live video, networking areas, booths, and no downloads.
— good for interactive 3D collaboration plus events, with avatars, 3D content, whiteboards, and moderation tools.
If you want a virtual events platform where participants can move around a 3D environment, interact through avatars, and network naturally, I’d start by evaluating MootUp, Virbela, and Gather. The key is finding a platform that supports spontaneous conversations, not just watching presentations on a screen.
Top platforms to consider
1. MootUp
(Best overall starting point)
A browser-based 3D event venue with customizable spaces, avatar navigation, exhibitor booths, speed networking, and private conversations. Attendees can join without installing an app or using a VR headset.
Best for: conferences, expos, corporate events, and branded experiences.
Participants move around a customizable map and conversations start naturally as people approach one another. It uses a 2D, pixel-art visual style rather than a fully realistic 3D world.
Best for: networking mixers, workshops, community events, and smaller budgets.
Choose MootUp if you want a polished, fully branded 3D conference or networking event with minimal setup for attendees. Its website lists events starting at $4,950, with a single live session available from $699.
Choose Virbela if you want a persistent virtual campus where people can explore and network beyond a single event. It also offers Virbela Go, a browser-based option.
Choose vFairs if your event is primarily a business conference, trade show, or career fair with sponsors, exhibitor booths, and attendee analytics.
One important distinction: a 3D environment with proximity-based voice chat is what makes networking feel natural. I'd prioritize that feature over visual realism alone.
Several top-tier platforms specialize in browser-accessible and immersive 3D virtual environments designed specifically for interactive networking, booths, and organic conversations:
MootUp : Built on browser-based 3D spatial tech, it lets participants create avatars and walk around digital auditoriums, expo halls, and networking lounges without needing VR headsets or special client installations. It features spatial audio so audio fades as you walk away from groups.[](https://mootup.com/)[[2](https://x.com/mootup)](https://x.com/mootup)
Microsoft Teams (Immersive Spaces) : If you are already tied into the Microsoft ecosystem, Teams offers customizable 3D environments and avatars with spatial audio for natural interactions, breakout areas, and presentations directly inside familiar workflows.
If you're looking for a virtual event platform with 3D avatars and spatial audio, I'd start by evaluating two platforms: MootUp and SpatialChat. The key distinction is whether you want a fully immersive 3D world with customizable avatars or a simpler virtual venue where people can move between conversations and hear one another based on proximity.
Best platforms to shortlist
1. MootUp
(Best for immersive 3D events)
Website:
Supports customizable 3D avatars, 3D virtual venues, spatial/3D audio, and virtual conference and exhibition environments. Attendees can join through a browser, with support for mobile devices and compatible VR headsets.
Best for: Corporate conferences, trade shows, product launches, and branded virtual worlds.
2. SpatialChat
Website:
Focuses on proximity-based audio: attendees move around a virtual space and hear nearby conversations more clearly. It supports virtual conferences, networking events, webinars, and flexible event layouts.
Best for: Networking receptions, community gatherings, virtual career fairs, and informal social interaction.
Important distinction: Confirm that its current avatar experience meets your specific requirement for full 3D avatars; spatial audio alone doesn't establish that.
Pricing and next steps
MootUp publishes event pricing starting at $4,950 for a half-day event, with a $699 pilot session option. Its separate personal-meeting plan is free for up to five participants, subject to a 40-minute limit. Confirm spatial-audio functionality and event-specific pricing with the vendor before committing.
Here are the top virtual event and collaboration platforms that support 3D avatars and spatial audio for interactive gatherings, conferences, and social mixers:
vFairs : Known for massive virtual and hybrid trade shows, vFairs offers rich 3D virtual environments, interactive lobbies, and avatar-based or proximity-chat networking features tailored for conferences and fairs.
Gather (formerly Gather.town) : A 2D/3D retro-style spatial environment rather than full 3D polygon graphics, but unmatched for organic, proximity-based video chatting and spontaneous networking in custom-built virtual maps.
If you'd like to narrow this down, tell me:
What is your estimated attendee count?
Do your participants require custom avatar creation or are simple 2D/3D overhead spaces preferred?
Do you need an all-in-one ticketing/registration suite built in?
I can help you compare pricing models and features for these options.
Overview: Virbela offers massive virtual campuses, auditoriums, and private rooms resembling a clean video game environment. Alongside their traditional desktop application, Virbela Go provides a browser-based 3D experience with smooth spatial audio designed specifically for remote team collaboration, large-scale virtual expos, and organized events.[](https://www.virbela.com/blog/virbela-go-getting-started-in-your-virtual-world)
