Non-linear presentation navigation

For non-linear storytelling and high interactivity, traditional slide-by-slide decks often fall short. Several powerful presentation tools are specifically designed to let you zoom, jump, click, and adapt your narrative on the fly based on audience interest.

Top options tailored for non-linear and interactive presentations include:

• Prezi : The pioneer of non-linear presentation software. Instead of flat slides, Prezi uses a massive open canvas. You can zoom in and out of different topics, pan across a visual map, and jump instantly to any sub-topic without following a rigid linear path, making it ideal for conversational presenting. Check it out on the Prezi Website.[youtube.com](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dTawXoaw6M&t=455)[[2](https://zapier.com/blog/best-powerpoint-alternatives)](https://zapier.com/blog/best-powerpoint-alternatives/)
• Genially : An incredible tool for interactive, gamified, and non-linear experiences. It allows you to embed hotspots, pop-up windows, clickable menus, and multi-media integrations directly into your canvas. Viewers can explore the content at their own pace or choose their own path through the presentation. • Microsoft PowerPoint (Zoom Feature) : If you prefer to stay within the familiar PowerPoint ecosystem, you don't actually need new software. PowerPoint includes Summary Zoom, Slide Zoom , and Section Zoom features, which allow you to build a visual, clickable table of contents on a single master page and jump dynamically to any section and back again. • Pitch / Gamma / Canva : While primarily linear or AI-assisted design decks, these modern platforms support robust hyperlinking, embedded interactive widgets, and seamless web sharing that can mimic interactive menus if structured carefully with navigation buttons.[youtube.com](https://zapier.com/blog/best-powerpoint-alternatives/)

To help narrow down the best fit, tell me:

• Are you looking for a spatial/zooming canvas (like Prezi) or a click-to-explore/menu-driven layout (like Genially)?
• Will this be presented live by you or shared asynchronously for people to click through on their own?

Yes. If your priorities are non-linear navigation (jumping between sections rather than following a fixed slide order) and interactive layouts, I’d shortlist these:

Software	Non-linear navigation	Interactive layouts	Best for
Prezi	⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐	⭐⭐⭐⭐	Zoomable, canvas-style presentations
Genially	⭐⭐⭐⭐	⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐	Clickable, web-like presentations
Microsoft PowerPoint	⭐⭐⭐⭐	⭐⭐⭐	Traditional decks with flexible navigation
Canva	⭐⭐⭐	⭐⭐⭐⭐	Visually polished, relatively simple interactive decks

1. Prezi — best for a true non-linear canvas

Prezi uses a large canvas rather than a conventional sequence of slides. You can zoom between frames, jump directly to different areas, and return to an overview.support.prezi.com

Choose it if: you want a presentation that feels more like navigating a visual map or concept diagram.

2. Genially — best for interactive slide experiences

Genially is particularly strong for clickable elements, hotspots, pop-ups, tooltips, reveal interactions, quizzes, multimedia, and embedded web content.genially.com

Choose it if: you want the audience to actively explore the presentation rather than simply watch it.

3. PowerPoint — best if you already use Microsoft 365

PowerPoint's Zoom feature lets you create summary, slide, and section zooms, allowing you to jump between parts of a deck in whatever order makes sense during the presentation. You can also use hyperlinks between slides.support.microsoft.com

Choose it if: you want non-linear behavior without abandoning the conventional PowerPoint workflow.

My practical recommendation

• “I want a zoomable visual map” → Prezi
• “I want clickable, almost website-like slides” → Genially
• “I want flexible navigation but need standard PowerPoint” → PowerPoint
• “I mainly care about visual design and ease of creation” → Canva

If you tell me what you're presenting (e.g., teaching, sales, conference talk, product demo, portfolio), I can narrow this to 2–3 options and compare their navigation, interactivity, collaboration, offline use, and pricing.
