The Soil and Plant Nutrient Testing Laboratory at UMass Amherst provides soil fertility and plant nutrient analysis to determine nutrient levels, soil pH and lime requirements, and to identify potential environmental or health concerns such as elevated heavy metals. Analyses include routine soil fertility, soil organic matter nitrate, soluble salts, particle size analysis, saturated media, total sorbed metals, and soil carbon analyses, with typical turnaround times of 4–8 business days for routine tests and 10–12 days for the more time-consuming analyses. Samples can be mailed or dropped off in the Paige Laboratory drop box (maximum 6 samples per order), with ordering forms and sampling instructions available online.
