SolSmart provides free technical assistance to local governments and regional organizations to streamline processes and remove barriers to affordable solar energy in their communities. It designates participating jurisdictions—cities, counties, towns, and regional entities—as SolSmart Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum based on adherence to national best practices, with a growing network of designees across the U.S. and territories. Led by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council and the International City/County Management Association and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office, SolSmart offers resources, pathways such as Pathway to Bronze, and case studies to help communities expand solar energy access and stimulate economic growth.
