What AI says about RIPE

RIPE is a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign research initiative focused on understanding and reengineering photosynthesis to increase crop yields and help end hunger worldwide. The program addresses multiple aspects of photosynthetic performance—Rubisco optimization, photoprotection, RuBP regeneration, photorespiratory bypass, canopy optimization, leaf conductance, and algal mechanisms—through modeling, experiments, and practical translation. It operates as a collaborative, multi-institution effort with publications, news, and outreach, continuing the legacy of Dr. Steve Long to advance crop efficiency and food security.
