Netflix Open Connect is a partnership program with Internet Service Providers to localize Netflix traffic and improve streaming quality by deploying Open Connect Appliances (OCAs) in ISP networks and using settlement-free interconnection at Netflix data centers. Embedded OCAs are provided to qualifying ISPs at no charge and offload a substantial portion of Netflix traffic, with Netflix supplying deployment guidance, monitoring, and ongoing support. ISPs connect via private interconnects or IXPs for SFI, enabling additional resiliency and updates, while Netflix maintains open peering locations and invites interested ISPs to participate.
