Apache ODE (Orchestration Director Engine) is an open-source engine that executes business processes written in WS-BPEL by orchestrating web services—sending and receiving messages, manipulating data, and handling errors for both long- and short-running workflows. It supports WS-BPEL 2.0 and BPEL4WS 1.1, provides two communication layers (Axis2 HTTP and JBI/ServiceMix), a REST-style HTTP binding via WSDL, external variable mapping to databases, a high-level API, hot deployment, and validation at deployment or compile time. The project has retired and moved to the Apache Attic.
