CAISI at NIST acts as the primary point of contact for industry to test and collaborate on harnessing and securing commercial AI. It develops guidelines and best practices to measure and improve AI security, and coordinates voluntary agreements and unclassified evaluations of AI capabilities that may affect national security. It also leads assessments of US and adversary AI systems, monitors foreign AI adoption, and works with other federal agencies and international partners to shape AI standards and policy.
