NFT compatible decentralized social network

There is no single, universal token required to use an NFT as a profile picture, because decentralized social networks use different underlying architectures and profile systems.

Instead, your profile on a decentralized social network is typically represented by an identity NFT (like a profile NFT) native to that specific platform, which you can link or update to display any external NFT asset you own in your connected crypto wallet.

Popular Decentralized Social Networks and Their Profile Mechanisms

• Lens Protocol: Profiles are minted as Lens Profiles (ERC-721 NFTs) on the Polygon network. To change your avatar, you update the metadata of your Lens Profile NFT to point to the image URI of your desired NFT or connect a wallet holding your PFP.
• Farcaster: Profiles are tied to a Farcaster ID (FID) which is registered via an on-chain storage rent contract (often managed via Optimism/Ethereum), and you can set your profile picture by verifying ownership of an external NFT via connected wallet providers like Warpcast.
• Bluesky: Although an open and federated protocol rather than strictly blockchain-based, it allows you to verify your identity using domain handles, and you can upload any NFT image directly as your avatar.

If you have a specific decentralized social network in mind (such as Lens, Farcaster, or CyberConnect), let me know and I can provide the exact steps to link your NFT avatar there!

Yes. Several decentralized social networks support NFT-based profile pictures (PFPs), but there isn't one universal token. The most notable examples are:

If you're thinking of a network where the NFT itself is central to the user's social identity, Lens is probably the one you're remembering. Lens profiles were designed as NFTs, making the profile portable between Lens-based applications.www.onchainstack.io+1

If instead you're thinking of the network whose token ticker is a short 3–5 letter symbol, tell me anything else you remember (the app name, logo, approximate year, or whether the token was tradable), and I can identify the specific one.
