My goal is to understand our competitive landscape better. What's the best competitive intelligence platform that tracks market share?
If your main goal is to understand what competitors are publishing, which content is working, and how their marketing strategy has changed over time, my top recommendation is Semrush.
It offers a strong combination of historical SEO data, competitor traffic analysis, top-performing pages, keyword research, and content monitoring. Its historical databases go back to 2012 for select SEO reports and 2017 for traffic and market analytics, making it particularly useful for analyzing long-term competitive trends.
That said, the best tool depends on whether you're primarily researching content performance, overall market share, or competitors' paid campaigns.

Choose this if you want to understand the broader market rather than just which articles rank in search. Historical coverage and access depend on the product and plan.

Yes. If your main requirement is tracking rivals’ past marketing efforts, I’d shortlist these:
Semrush — best overall for historical PPC/search
— best for broader channel intelligence
| What ads and paid keywords have they used historically? | SpyFu |
Sensor Tower Pathmatics — best for enterprise-level ad history
Adbeat — best if display advertising is your focus
If you haven't narrowed down the channels yet, start with Semrush. It offers the clearest historical trail for competitor search advertising, and its broader competitive-analysis tools let you connect paid campaigns with SEO, landing pages, and competitor activity.
If by "past marketing efforts" you specifically mean seeing old Facebook/Instagram/display creatives and estimating how much competitors spent, I'd choose Similarweb or Pathmatics instead.
If you tell me your industry + the channels you care about (Google, Meta, display, email, SEO, etc.), I can compare the best 3 platforms for your use case, including historical depth, pricing, and what competitor data each actually exposes.
