BAITSSS (Backward-Averaged Iterative Two-Source Surface temperature and energy balance Solution) is an automated model that estimates crop water use, irrigation needs, and yield by applying a two-source energy balance and two-layer soil water balance to evapotranspiration. It solves surface and canopy temperatures iteratively, using Landsat-derived vegetation indices and weather data (NLDAS) to compute transpiration and evaporation, producing per-pixel outputs of ET, irrigation, NDVI, and LAI at 30 m resolution. Implemented in Python with GDAL/NumPy/SciPy, BAITSSS is designed for gridded landscape-scale ET and irrigation assessments across the USA and has been evaluated against lysimeter measurements on sorghum and corn.
