BrainScaleS is a neuromorphic computing project and hardware platform that aims to understand and emulate multi-scale brain information processing using wafer-scale, in-vivo-inspired neuromorphic hardware and non-von Neumann approaches. It develops a Hybrid Multiscale Computing Facility that combines microscopic neuromorphic circuits with mesoscopic and macroscopic functional units and uses petaflop simulations to study brain function, including in-vivo experiments to guide theory. Access to the BrainScaleS system is available free of charge for research via the EBRAINS Neuromorphic Computing service, and the project’s hardware development continues within the Human Brain Project's Neuromorphic Computing Platform.
