Portable projector

I checked current 2026 reviews and shopping listings. The standout portable projectors right now are led by XGIMI, Anker Nebula, and Samsung, with different models winning depending on whether you prioritize image quality, true portability, outdoor use, or price. RTINGS’ latest ranking puts the XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K at #1 overall.www.rtings.com

Anker Nebula Mars 3

$899.99

Nebula Capsule 3 Laser

$627.99

Anker Nebula P1

$648.99

Samsung The Freestyle+

$949.99

My current shortlist

The Mars 3 is the clear choice if you're actually taking the projector outdoors: RTINGS measured up to about 132 minutes at maximum brightness and notes its rugged, water-resistant construction; its Eco rating is up to five hours.www.rtings.com

For something that lives in a backpack, I'd lean toward the Capsule 3 Laser or XGIMI's smaller models. The Capsule 3 weighs about 2.85 lb and has a built-in battery.

The Samsung Freestyle 2nd Gen remains one of the easiest projectors to live with, although its 230-lumen brightness is substantially lower than the Mars 3, so it's much better in a dark room.www.techradar.com

One important caveat

Don't choose based on the advertised "lumens" alone. Portable projectors are inherently a brightness compromise, and even the best ones perform dramatically better in a dark room. RTINGS specifically notes that portability generally comes at the expense of brightness and image quality.www.rtings.com

If I were buying today:

• Best picture: XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K
• Best outdoor: Anker Nebula Mars 3
• Best backpack/travel: Nebula Capsule 3 Laser
• Best convenience: Samsung Freestyle
• Best value: XGIMI Vibe One

If you tell me your budget (e.g. <$300, $500, $1,000) and whether it's mainly for bedroom, travel, or outdoor movies, I can narrow this to the 2–3 best buys and compare current prices.
