HVAC furnace repair

When your furnace goes out, you need to call a licensed HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) contractor or a specialized heating and cooling repair company.[homedepot.com](https://www.homedepot.com/services/c/hvac-repair/673dcc2c8)[[2](https://www.homestars.com/heating/hvac-contractor-pros)](https://www.homestars.com/heating/hvac-contractor-pros)

Here is how you can find and vet the right professional to get your heat back on:

• Local HVAC Contractors: Search for independent, licensed heating and cooling companies in your immediate local area. You can find vetted local pros through directories like the Better Business Bureau HVAC Directory.[homedepot.com](https://www.bbb.org/near-me/heating-and-air-conditioning)
• Big-Box Home Services: Major retailers offer centralized repair dispatching if you prefer a streamlined corporate booking process. You can request diagnostics through The Home Depot HVAC Repair Services or schedule maintenance via Lowe's HVAC Services.[homedepot.com](https://www.lowes.com/l/install/hvac-service)[[2](https://www.homestars.com/heating/hvac-contractor-pros)](https://www.homedepot.com/services/c/hvac-repair/673dcc2c8)
• Manufacturer Dealers: If you know the brand of your furnace (e.g., Carrier, Trane, Lennox), you can use manufacturer locator tools—like the Carrier Dealer Locator —to find factory-authorized technicians who carry specific parts.[homedepot.com](https://www.carrier.com/us/en/residential/find-a-dealer/)

Before you call, check these quick troubleshooting steps:

1. Thermostat settings: Ensure it is set to "Heat" and the temperature is set higher than the current room temperature (and check if the batteries are dead).
2. Circuit breaker: Check your main electrical panel to see if the furnace switch or breaker has tripped.
3. Furnace switch: Verify that the physical power switch mounted on or near the furnace didn't get bumped off.
4. Air filter: A severely clogged filter can cause the furnace to shut down due to overheating.

Before calling a technician, it is worth running through a few quick safety checks:

1. Check the thermostat settings to confirm it is set to "Heat" and the temperature is set above the current room temperature.
2. Verify that the furnace switch (often looks like a regular light switch mounted on or near the furnace) hasn't been accidentally turned off.
3. Check your circuit breaker box to ensure the breaker for the furnace hasn't tripped.
4. Inspect the air filter; a severely clogged filter can cause the furnace to shut down due to overheating.

If you share your city or ZIP code , I can help narrow down specific local options or guide you through troubleshooting specific error codes your furnace might be displaying.
