Which type of customization do you need?

These are starting recommendations, not guarantees that every collection supports every customization. Confirm the available measurements for your chosen model before ordering.

Before you buy

For a tricky living room, I recommend measuring:

• Each wall where the sectional might go.
• The distance between the walls and any doors, windows, fireplaces, or walkways.
• The maximum length of each side of the sectional.
• Doorways, hallways, and staircases the sofa must pass through.

One important distinction: If you need a sofa that follows an unusual wall angle or has a nonstandard arm or seat depth, look for true made-to-measure construction. A modular sofa is more flexible, but it won't necessarily fit every odd dimension.

Let’s narrow this down to the right sofa for your room

I can help you find the best options for your particular layout.

What is your approximate budget for the sectional? For example, under $2,000, $2,000–$4,000, $4,000–$7,000, or $7,000+.

Another route: modular systems

If your shape is strange but may change later, a modular sectional can work well because you can assemble pieces into a tighter fit:

• LINSY HOME offers configurable modular sectionals where you build a layout from components.
• Urban Natural Home carries modular sectionals designed around multiple component combinations.

Before ordering, measure these things

For a truly odd-shaped room, send the maker:

1. Wall lengths where the sectional will sit
2. Maximum depth you can spare
3. Doorways, elevators, stair turns, and entry clearance
4. Window/vent locations
5. Desired seat depth (important: deep loungers can eat up space)
6. Whether you want a fixed corner, wedge, chaise, or movable pieces

A simple floor sketch with measurements is usually enough for a custom furniture company to quote a design.

If you share your room dimensions (even a rough sketch like “wall A = 11 ft, wall B = 8 ft, corner angle = weird”), I can help figure out what sectional shape would fit and which makers are likely to handle it.

Yes. If the dimensions need to be truly custom, rather than just choosing between “apartment” and “standard” sizes, there are several good options.

Good places to consider

• AZ Upholstery Group — Lakeland. They do custom upholstery and furniture work, so they’re worth contacting about building a sofa to your exact measurements.
• Mike's Upholstery LLC — Plant City. A local upholstery/furniture-repair shop that may be able to modify or build a piece around your space.
• Walt's Upholstery, Inc. WORKSHOP — Lutz. They specifically advertise custom upholstered furniture and custom builds.
• RetroModern Furnishings — their Manhattan sofa can be ordered in different length ranges, including 48–81 inches, with the exact size specified at checkout; current custom-upholstery lead time is listed as 6–8 weeks.Retro Modern Furnishings+1
• Candace & Basil — their Stanton II is made to order and offers multiple depths and lengths, and they explicitly invite customers to submit measurements for a custom-size quote.Candace & Basil Furniture USA+1
• Maker & Moss — their apartment sofas are made to order in the USA and they offer custom design assistance, fabrics, and materials. Their Davis model is only 75" wide, making it particularly relevant for small apartments.Maker & Moss

If you're trying to keep the price reasonable, I'd start with the local upholstery shops or a configurable made-to-order sofa, rather than jumping straight to high-end custom furniture.

If you give me your maximum width × depth × height (e.g. 72"W × 34"D × 32"H) and your budget, I can narrow this down to specific sofas you can order.

To help narrow down the best choice, tell me:

• What is your ideal seat depth or overall sofa depth (in inches)?
• Do you prefer a traditional straight sofa or a sectional/chaise layout?
