For most people making matcha lattes at home, I’d recommend Jade Leaf Organic Ceremonial Matcha – Barista Edition for everyday café-style lattes, or Encha Ceremonial Grade Latte Matcha if you want an organic powder with a smooth, balanced flavor. Both are designed to work well with milk rather than getting lost in it.
The best choice depends on whether you prefer a creamy, sweet latte, a strong earthy matcha flavor, or something less bitter.
A latte-focused blend with a bold, grassy matcha flavor that stands up to oat milk, dairy milk, and ice. Great for daily use, especially if you like café-style drinks.
A smooth, slightly sweet, gently grassy matcha that works well in hot or iced drinks. Particularly appealing if you dislike an intensely bitter or savory taste.
Add 2 oz of warm water, ideally around 160–175°F (71–79°C).
Whisk until smooth and frothy, with no clumps.
Pour over 6–8 oz of milk and ice, or add steamed milk for a hot latte.
Sweeten to taste with vanilla syrup, honey, or maple syrup.
My final recommendation: Start with Jade Leaf Barista Edition if you make matcha lattes regularly. If you prefer a smoother, more delicate tea flavor and want an organic option, choose Encha.
One useful distinction: if you want 100% pure matcha without added sugar, buy a plain matcha powder rather than a premixed latte blend.
If you prefer clean sourcing, sustainability, and certified organic options, these choices deliver distinct tasting notes ranging from sweet cream to nutty undertones.[1][2]
To help narrow down your selection, please let me know:
Do you prefer a sweet and creamy profile or a more savory, umami-forward flavor?
What kind of milk (oat, almond, soy, or dairy) do you plan to use?
Do you have a specific budget or preference for organic certification?
🏆 Tazo Classic Chai — Best overall
More pronounced black-tea flavor, cardamom, cinnamon, clove and spice. A recent 2026 taste test also rated Tazo the favorite for hot chai.
Rishi Organic Masala Chai — Best for a more authentic/less candy-sweet chai
Organic black tea with a strong spice profile. It tends to be a better choice if you actually like ginger, cardamom and spice rather than a sweet latte.
Oregon Chai Original — Best if you like sweet, creamy café-style chai
It's smoother and more vanilla/honey-forward, but considerably less spicy. Current Target listings have it around $5.29/32 oz.
Dona Masala Chai — Best splurge/artisanal option
Lightly sweetened and spice-forward; particularly interesting if you want something closer to a specialty coffee-shop chai rather than supermarket chai.
My recommendation: If you're making iced chai lattes with oat milk, I'd lean Tazo. If you want strong, spicy, less-sweet chai, go Rishi. If you want the classic sweet Starbucks/Dutch Bros-style flavor, get Oregon Chai.
If you tell me how you like your chai (sweet vs spicy, dairy vs oat milk, hot vs iced), I can pick the exact one I'd buy for you.
The Rishi Organic Masala Chai Concentrate is widely regarded as the best store-bought chai concentrate because of its bold, authentic spice profile and use of real, organic ingredients rather than artificial extracts.[1]
Different concentrates excel depending on your preferred level of sweetness, spice kick, or sugar content:
🥇 Best overall: Tazo Classic Chai
This is the one I'd buy first. It has a recognizable café-style balance of black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and vanilla. A recent taste test rated Tazo the favorite for hot chai lattes, particularly because the spice and sweetness hold together nicely when warmed.
🌶️ Best if you actually love spices: Rishi Organic Masala Chai
This is my pick if you want your chai to taste more like masala chai rather than sweetened chai-flavored milk. Rishi uses black tea with ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, clove and cracked black pepper, and describes it as less sweet and more intensely spiced than many competitors.
🍯 Best if you want to control the sweetness: The Chai Box Unsweetened
A particularly good choice if you don't want to be locked into the sugar level of a premade latte concentrate. You can add your own honey/maple syrup—or none at all.
🥛 Best for a sweet, mellow latte: Oregon Chai
Very easy to like, especially with oat or whole milk. It's noticeably sweeter and less spice-forward than Tazo or Rishi.
What I'd personally buy
If you're new to making chai at home → Tazo.
If you're thinking "I want this to taste like real spicy chai" → Rishi*.
If you're picky about sweetness → The Chai Box Unsweetened.
For preparation, start around 1:1 concentrate to milk, then adjust. For a really good homemade latte, warm/steam the milk separately rather than boiling the concentrate. For iced chai, shake the concentrate and cold milk together over ice.
If you want more of a traditional Indian chai flavor rather than a Starbucks-style chai latte, I'd actually steer you toward a good dry masala blend + loose black tea instead. A recent spice-blend tasting particularly liked Blue Lotus Traditional Masala Chai and Soul Chai Original for their stronger tea and pepper-forward profiles.
Making a cafe-style chai tea latte at home is a game-changer. Depending on how much control you want over the sweetness and spice, you can go the liquid concentrate route (fast and easy) or use a loose-leaf/spice blend route (authentic and bold).

Best Spice & Tea Blends (For a From-Scratch Taste)
If liquid concentrates taste too syrupy to you, brewing loose spices or using a dry artisanal blend with loose black tea gives you total control over the sugar:
The Chai Box : Known for authentic, small-batch artisan loose-leaf Chai blends. You simmer the tea and spices directly on the stove with milk and your sweetener of choice for an authentic masala chai experience.
DIY Chai Spice Blend : If you already have a well-stocked spice cabinet, you can whip up your own custom powder to mix directly into strong brewed black tea. A reliable ratio includes:
4 t b s p ground cinnamon
3 t b s p ground cardamom
2 t b s p ground ginger
2.2 5 t s p ground nutmeg
0.7 5 t s p ground black pepper (for that authentic back-of-the-throat warmth)
Would you prefer to lean toward super easy (liquid concentrates you just mix with milk) or do you want to try a stovetop method with loose spices ? Also, let me know if you prefer your chai sweet or low-sugar.
