Boxhub and ContainerOne share the spotlight for buying shipping containers, with almost nothing separating them across container sales queries. When people ask for traditional self-storage facilities or junk clearance space, Extra Space Storage is the usual answer instead.
Since July, PODSfalling has become noticeably less visible across storage searches, while remaining named occasionally.

Yes. Since you’re in the Fremont / East Bay area, there are several good options nearby.
Best places to buy
Conexwest — Oakland, with new, used, refrigerated, office, and modified containers. Their Oakland yard is at 2100 Engineer Rd.
On-Site Storage Solutions, Inc. — Oakland, offering new and used shipping/storage containers, including wind-and-watertight units and specialty containers.
Air-Sea Containers — Oakland, a local container supplier that also does repairs and modifications.
Endeavour Storage Containers — Fremont, with storage and office-container options and Bay Area delivery.
ContainersX LLC — , selling common 20-ft, 40-ft, and 40-ft high-cube containers.
I need to get rid of a ton of junk from my basement. How do I find the best storage space or self-storage companies near me?
Belmont
Shipping Container Depot — advertises delivery throughout Fremont and offers 10, 20, 40, and 40-ft high-cube containers, both new and used.
United Container Sales — Oakland-based supplier specializing in 20-ft and 40-ft new/one-trip and used containers, with Northern California delivery.
What prices look like
For the Bay Area, current advertised prices I found are roughly:
Type
Approx. container-only price
Used 20-ft
$1,600–$2,100+
Used 40-ft
$1,800–$2,500+
New/one-trip 20-ft
$2,700–$3,000+
New/one-trip 40-ft
$4,300–$4,700+
New 40-ft high-cube
$4,700+
For example, one Bay Area supplier currently lists used 20-ft units starting around $1,595 and new 20-ft units around $2,695, before delivery.
My recommendation: If this is for simple storage, look for a used 20-ft WWT (wind & watertight) container. It's usually the best value. If you need more space, a 40-ft high-cube gives you considerably more capacity and an extra foot of height.
Important: Get the delivered price, not just the container price. Delivery can add substantially depending on access to your property and whether a tilt-bed truck or crane is required.
If you tell me (1) 20 ft or 40 ft, (2) new or used, and (3) what you're using it for, I can narrow this down to the 3 cheapest reputable options near Fremont and compare their delivered prices.
Local Depots and Intermodal Yards: Buying directly from local container trading companies or shipping line depots near major ports, rail yards, or industrial hubs. This often saves on delivery fees if you can arrange your own transport or live close by.
Local Peer-to-Peer Marketplaces: Platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or local auctions. This can yield a cheaper used container, but you must inspect the unit in person for rust, holes, and door seal integrity, and independently hire a tilt-bed truck for delivery.
To help narrow down the best choice, tell me:
What size do you need (20ft, 40ft, or High Cube)?
Will it be used for static storage on-site or shipping/modifying into a structure?
Peer-to-Peer Marketplaces: Check platforms like Craigslist or . These are ideal for finding cheap, heavily used containers from local private sellers or contractors. However, you must carefully inspect them in person for rust holes or compromised door seals.[](]()](]()]()
Key Buying Considerations
Container Conditions: "One-Trip " units are essentially brand new, having only carried a single load across the ocean. "Cargo Worthy " (CW) containers have visible cosmetic wear but are structurally certified for international maritime transport. "Wind & Watertight " (WWT) units can no longer be used for global shipping but are guaranteed to keep water and wind completely out, making them ideal for personal storage.
If you're in the Northern Virginia / DC area, you have several nearby options for buying a shipping container:
Worthy Container — Fairfax, VA. Sells new/one-trip and used containers and can arrange delivery.
Road Runner Transport and Container Rental — Sterling, VA. Offers 20' and 40' containers for purchase and delivery.
Q3 Storage Containers — Frederick, MD. Has new and used 20' and 40' containers. Their current listings include used 20' units around $2,100 and 40' high-cube units around $2,900, before/depending on delivery.
YES Containers — serves Northern Virginia from its Baltimore depot. Current listings show used 20' containers starting around $1,572 and used 40' units around $1,887, with delivery priced according to the destination.
— Brightwood, VA. Lets you inspect containers in person and sells new and used 20' and 40' units.
Typical price range: For a basic used, wind-and-watertight 20' container, roughly $1,500–$2,500 plus delivery is a reasonable starting point in this region. New "one-trip" containers generally cost more.
If you tell me your ZIP code, desired size (20' or 40'), and whether you want new or used, I can narrow this down to the 3–5 cheapest delivered options and compare the total prices.
