The Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) at NIST serves as industry's primary point of contact within the U.S. government to facilitate testing, collaboration, and measurement related to commercial AI systems. It develops guidelines and voluntary standards to measure and improve the security of AI systems and leads unclassified evaluations of AI capabilities that may pose national security risks, including assessments of U.S. and adversary AI systems and potential foreign influence. CAISI coordinates with other federal agencies and international partners to develop evaluation methods, promote U.S. leadership in AI standards, and help guard against burdensome regulation while enabling secure, innovative AI development.
